The Year of Fog by Michelle Richmond (2008, Paperback, Reprint)

This book is fantastic - I stayed just to see how it ended. If you have children, a niece, a granddaughter - you must read this book. Abby - the main character who was walking on Ocean Beach when Emma disappeared - could be any of us. Her drive to never give up looking for her & unwillingness to accept the unacceptable is courageous, admirable and riveting. This is a page-turner! The race to get to the end is fantastic, right up to the very last page. I havevn't read a book THIS GOOD in a long time by a new (not so famous!) author - very Jodi Picoult-ish. LOVE IT!!!!!!

This book was a selection of our book club. It's a well-written novel about a woman who loses her soon-to-be stepdaughter to a kidnapper. The fear and confusion of such a tragic event is caught well in the novel's beginning chapters. However, the middle of the book begins to drag a little. What most of us liked best however was we felt the ending was pretty much true-to-life. We would recommend it.

I bought this book because it seemed really interesting. I enjoyed this book. Abby is walking on the beach with Emma when Emma disappears. Abby was determined to find Emma and her kidnapper(s) even though this destroyed her relationship with Emma's father. You have to read this book yourself to find out whether Abby mended her relationship with Emma's father and if Emma was ever found.

Recommend by book club group I attend. Many said they liked her writing style. For me the characters came to life and descriptions of locations were easy to visualize. Will look for more of her books; well done.

The book was too long and the ending totally predictible. Very slow moving, nothing to hold your interest. I found myself skimming pages loooking for some exciting part. Find another read.
