Unbelievable sound quality!

I purchased this Yamaha because my 20 year old JVC was fading. I had even thought my Advent speakers might be worn. But after hooking up the 797, the speakers sounded like new with no distortion. The sound quality is excellent. The CD direct feature gives great sound. I highly recommend this receiver.

the reason i purchased the yamaha rx797 stereo receiver was that i have had very good luck with yamaha equiptment in the past, and this is surely no exception to that claim !! i recently purchased a set of bose 901 speakers, and was a bit worried about being able to power them. the yamaha was more than capable of handling the bose, if fact quite effortless !! i would strongly recommend this receiver to anyone looking for a low priced powerhouse !!

This receiver was purchased to replace an NILES amplifier. Yamaha RX 797 offers the same specifications and sound quality as NILES for a more affordable price. It is even better to know that this Receiver also offers you the choice of XM radio, even is not necessary as you may hook your TV and use any music channel or hook your computer as well and play music from your library or iTunes. After all Buying a Yamaha is not only buying a good device is spend your money in a very efficient way.

Budgeted AudiophileThe RX797 in a wonderfull machine. It has very low THD (total Harmonic Distortion >.01. The tuner rivels a Sony ES tuner(from the mid 90's). You can't hear the difference. The amp. in the RX797 is different from the RX497. The RX497 has a higher THD >1.0. By the way the integrated amp from Yamaha at the time coded AX (on longer made)had a higher THD than the RX797.The weight of RX797 is impressive. So much so that Yamaha had to use a heaver chase to support it. This is the top end Yamaha 2 channel receiver. The bundel of benefits Yamaha put into RX797 make it a real deal over the RX497. I think you would have to go to seperates and spend a whole lot more to out perform the RX797.
This is the back bone to a new system I'm putting together. IT will be my third since February 1980. I came from an integrated amp. with separate tuner that was fourteen years old before I lost the left channel. I went looking for another integrated amp. Integrated amps of the past had ok THD but also had awsome dynamic range that receivers didnot have. Comparing my old amp, the AX series from Yamaha, and RX797 I began to see how good the amp section of the RX797 is.It became a no brainer on paper. After I broke it in it is powerfull, really good dynamic range, low THD, and it has gerth. It is big and heavy and that is good.
If you are a person who wants good to really good sound in your home the RX797 is for you. If you want a rack system and all that it implies this will not give you the look you want, in fact it will look out of place.
I think of myself as a budgeted audiophile. I love music. I don't buy often, I like to buy good equipment at a really good price. Yamaha has had a wonderfull reputation for many decades.The RX797 fits my image of quality and value.
