Yamaha DVD-S2500B DVD Player

I tend to do things in 2's or 3's so if you read any of my other reviews (or I write anymore), you will understand why.
Most of my home audio equipment is the professional Pioneer Spec series of components that I purchased new in the early 80s. None of those components were built with remotes, nor were they built in an era of "surround sound" (Quadraphonic yes). After years of procrastinating about how frustrated I was with the Pioneer Elite series (why Black, what was wrong with polished aluminum? ;-) I decided to switch brands and go with either Sony or Yamaha.
My video gear has always been Sony, but I've had problems in the past with Sony DVD players (LCD panels blinking out, remotes failing etc) and I had just purchased 3 Yamaha receivers (mainly for the remotes and surround sound capabilities) to run as the head ends to my Spec gear. It just seemed natural that I would purchase the Yamaha DVD players to go along with them (from the same supplier usabargaindeals).
At a list price of $750, this is not an easy purchase for the average buyer, but when you can get 3 of them for $125 (each) the impact is a lot easier to take. I never would have bought 1 at the list price and this was my first stab at a "C Stock" item. If you can get the same deal, I don't think you can go wrong. The loading time is TERRIBLY long, but the audio and video response is very pleasing. The remote was a bit confusing at first as there appeared to be no fast forward or fast rewind (only a chapter skip). One has to STAND on the chapter skip key to get it to do a fast forward instead of just a quick press which will cause it to move ahead a chapter (and there are multiple fast forward increments).
My only complaint could be that there is no OPEN function on the remote (you have to open it from the changer), however once in the tray you can close it by selecting a play (or other) function. It would also be nice if this "had" been a Blu-Ray player, but that would be asking too much. ;-)
