Yamaha DVD-C950 Multi-disc DVD Player

The multi-format aspect of this changer is great. The sound is awesome and it works well with DVDs also. I bought this primarily to play DVD-audio and SACD and it fills that role well. Need to remember to buy a receiver with the analog audio inputs to get the full effect of multi-channel.

Disappointing is that the player cannot tell when a regular DVD goes in - I have to manually select "surround sound" when I put a regular DVD in to watch to get that to work with my receiver - which is high end.

It is neat to see the DVD audio info display on the screen as I listen to those, but I'm not sure about the future of the format. I'll hold off on another DVD player until the blu-ray vs. HD format war is done.

I have owned many Yamaha products and used their amps for over 25 years this dvd player is exactly what you would expect from Yamaha. My main complaint is the remote the fast forward and section skip are combined and it's difficult to use.
The remove, when you want to fast forward you may jump a head to the next chapter. Anyone using a single universal remote will not mind the remote faults. The remote is simple and compact that is really nice. The navigation menu's are simple and intuitive.
The picture quality is excellent my unit seems a little on the yellow side compared to the sony i was using which seemed on he blue side. The picture is super sharp with the 720p up convert. Best of all it plays all discs, including the scratched up rentals, far better then my old sony.
Over all its 9.0+/10!
