BUT TO UNDERSTAND IT BETTER YOU FOR SURE NEED TO SPEAK SPANISH !! BECAUSE ITS NOT THE SAME READING THE SUBTITLES! SOMETHINGS THEY SAY ARE NOT THE SAME THING THEY WRITE ! SO IF YOU KNOW HOW TO SPEAK SPANISH THIS IS THE MOVIE FOR YOU AND IF YOU DONT THEN I REALLY DONT RECOMMEND IT

This is a very well done film about to teenage boys that are the best of friends and do everything together, Then the Girl of there dreams throughs a stick in the midst and a torrid Three way love affar begins and abruptly ends when it goes down to a two way affar and it's the girl who left the group!!! The tradgedy is the loss of friendship that should have lasted forever...

Whew!! That opening scene alone nearly did me in ...

No Seriously. GREAT Movie, Good Performances by all. The 2 young actors.... Very Good, I hope I will see them in more movies. The woman OUTSTANDING!!! very convincing. This is more than just a tale of 2 young boys on the road with a older woman to whom they both have sex with. There is a real story here. There are glimpes into the Middle Class life in Mexico, the poverty and how it must be to be a "middle class" teenager in Mexico. I believe one of my fellow reviewers mentioned the Political under currents in the movie, yes, they are there but it doesn't take away from the movie I believe it was the writer and directors intent to let the viewers know what was going on in these young mens world. Tenoche (one the male characters) father was Secretary of State, Julio's (the other male character) sister was a protestor against the government.

I liked SO much about this movie. I find that I can't pinpoint them all, however I must mention that there are quite a few sexual scenes in it and I do not recommend it if you are not open to the possiblity of homosexuality, or if you find drug usage offensive then this may not be the movie for you.

One thing that I have noticed, lately with my Foreign Film selections, is that the movies don't always have a Happy ending. They don't tend to leave any loose ends, but it isn't always what you think it might be...... watch the movie it is rather a good pick.... and despite what you may have heard there is a very good story here.

Before Alfonso Cuaron started doing Harry Potty films, he made this movie. Y Tu Mama Tambien is one of the sexiest, funniest, and subtly Marxist films I've seen. Yes, class consciousness is the subtext here, played out between the rich son of the crooked politician (Diego Luna)and his best friend the poor kid (Gael Garcia Bernal in the role that really made him) and in the way that the camera often leaves the main characters to track the daily routines of the working class peple that seamlessy surround their lives.
This movie is not for the prudish-- prepare for frank teenage male sexuality, portrayed in a thankfully healthy and nonjudgemental manner (no, Todd Solondz, we don't want your sick perversion). With wonderful surprises at the end of the film, it is a movie that, in subsequent viewings, is totally different, gaining depth with each viewing.
BUY IT. YOU'LL LOVE IT!

This movie is one of those that makes you think. The characters are amazing, as they give themselves to life.

I'd had this movie on my watch-list for quite a while before breaking down and making this purchase. Not for the faint of heart. I loved it, but you have to be very open-minded. Steamy.

I wanted to own this film which I had seen when it was released in 2002.I understand that it was a very big hit in Mexico where the theater lines wrapped around the streets. It's become a classic at this point, sometimes thought of as a cult film, although label would narrow its appeal. I think it's a carefully made literary film.

It's a well-written tale of the two sides of life, the rich and the poor, the young and the old, the well and the sick, the male and the female, and most especially, the old Mexico that is being replaced by the modern one. It's got heavy duty emotional stuff that is not for the narrow-minded, full of unbounded, but honest sexuality. It looks at the passionate joys of two male adolescents on a last fling the summer before leaving that world of innocence. It tempers their irresponsibility by having them encounter the darker side of life through a new female friend as they ride through the old Mexico on a wild last fling for all of them. It is full of surprises and fun, which balances the underlying seriousness of their lives and the country.

I initially purchased the R version instead of the NR version. This film shipped quickly and was rather inexpensive. It was exactly what I was looking for and is in great condition. Definitely recommend!
