  The final chapter

First off, the fighting system is fast, furious and fun, the best in the series, but not totally crazy like FFX-2 or Star Ocean TtEoT. The story is great, but the diolouge during the text-box scenes can be cheesy, and the voice acting is a little childish at times, but not enough to be a major complaint. The graphics are spectacular, one of the best on the PS2 platform. The characters, while not being as extremely deformed as in Episode 1, now have a "realistic anime" style. Basically, they are much more atractive than in Episode 2, but are still more suited for the seriousness of Xenosaga than the art style of Episode 1.
Even if you're not crazy about the story, the battle system is well worth your time.

A Strong Improvement from Episode II
Review created: 01/23/07(updated 05/02/09)
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

After playing Episode II, which had the slowest battle system in the series, I was hoping for improvement in this final chapter of the story, and was amazed after only 30 minutes. Right off the bat, you can select "Data" from the menu, which takes you to cutscene and character model viewers (progressing as you play through the game) a feature that should have been in the second game.
As you progress through the story, you go through the traditional epic cutscenes, and also some NEW voiced textbox cutscenes (which can be automatically skipped by pressing SELECT). The battle system has been revamped (no loading time) and is more traditional this time, with your standard attack, your techs, ether skills, and special attacks (using the boost meter), and a whole lot faster and enjoyable than ever (also easier). The game is still very linear, but the story is so absorbing that you won't care, and there are still lots of side-quests and the HaKox action/puzzle mini-game to sidetrack you. The characters have gone through a redesign again, they are slightly less mature models, and the outfits on some characters are stunning! You still get your ES battles too, which was probably the only fun part of Episode II, and the music and voice acting are both well-done.

To summarize:
Graphics --- A (very detailed and large environments, great redesign of the main characters, auto camera is again flawless, and constant 30fps)
Sound --- A (soundtrack fits that of an epic movie, amazing number of voice acted characters)
Controls --- B (controls are very simple, though there's not much to interact with)
Gameplay --- A (great battle system, super HaKox mini-game, some good side-quests)
Learning Curve --- B+ (relatively simple turn-based battle system, nowhere near the complexity of XSII, could be good for newcomers to the series but not recommended for story purposes)
Value --- A+ (even if you don't wish to replay the game, you can still replay the entire story through the event viewer, tremendous database comes back from XSI, and you can build your own levels in HaKox)

Overall, this game is a masterpiece of storytelling and RPG goodness, buy it now, you won't regret it. Also, try to get through Episode II if you haven't already, to get the full story.

  The Finale?
Review created: 03/03/08

Originally supposed to be a 6-part series, Xenosaga was tragically cut short ending with only 3 titles. This finale game ties up all the loose ends. It is not recommended to play this game until completing the other 2, because there are also bonuses for having complete save files on your memory card!

One of the Best PS2 RPG's Available

Xenosaga the series has gone through it's troubles, but maintains one of the greatest storylines ever told in a videogame. This third installment is much more like the original Xenosaga in it's style and presentation, while the battle system has finally received a much needed upgrade. It's now extremely fast paced and fairly straight forward, with just enough strategy to keep fans of the old system happy.

It also includes a full summary of both previous Xenosaga games and a video gallery that lets you watch every scene of dialogue or cutscene you've unlocked by playing through the game.

Overall, this is the best RPG I've played in a long time.

  Great game!

This game is an excellent addition to the Xenosaga series. I loved the first two games. For those who have not played the first two games and decide to skip to the third episode for any reason, the game features the Xeno Bible which gives you a summary of what has happened up until episode three. There is also a database in the game that gives you information on characters, locations, ect. when you find the database files. They are hidden in certain areas of the game. I enjoyed playing this game! The storyline, the battle system, the puzzles, and the tricky challanges. I love all of it!

Xenosaga is a great series for its time. The first two are still easy to find in stores but the 3rd one took me a while to finally get. It has a wonderful storyline and awesome music. Any RPG gamer should give it a shot. You wont regret it.

  Fantastic game

My only problem with this game is the fixed camera angles but I got over it pretty quick. The gameplay is fun, and for a turn based attach system to not just sit there and hit X button over and over again it was great. I did not complete all the side quests but there is enough there to entertain for hours.

  Xenosage Episode III (PS2)

This is what I called the best game playing experience ever! This game is a turn base fighting system, which is very cool! The story line is very interesting from the first two episodes. I am kind of disappointed at the end of this game. They've left so much out and leave you hanging on the edge. I hope they would make another Xenosaga out with a new story line that connected to the last episode.

  One of the best!

Ep. III had me feeling rather skeptical before it came out, as Ep. II's battle system left me exasperated to the point of practically inventing new colloquialisms. However, my fear was lain to rest quickly after starting this game. After an hour, I could not put the game down. The E.S./mech battles had received a complete overhaul, practially making me shed tears of joy. After wondering how the storyline would culminate, I must say that I was more than satisfied with how the plot was crafted. The soundtrack, though in some places less endorphin-inducing than that of Ep. I, was still excellent. The only real improvement I could suggest would be to make the difficulty a little harder, as I only found one or two battles in the entire game that made me really have to think. However, the storyline left me begging for more. Why, Namco, did you have to cancel an RPG series with so much potential? Gamers, do you owe it to yourself to check this game out.

  Excellent Game

This is the last part of the Xenosaga series. It really shows you more storyline than the past releases. has a good gameplay and the graphics are awesome. I give it a 4/5 cause it wasnt too dificult to beat. you dont even have to spend time training, just by going with the game flow you are done. also this one move called Best ally makes it imposible for you to lose. Cause it revives your character as soon as it dies. So if you put it on all your chars, there is no way in hell that a gameover would occur. You keep doing that over and over till the end of the battle.

  Truly Dissatisfying
Review created: 09/07/06(updated 09/18/06)

Following through with having played the first two games before; although I was dissapointed with how much off Episode 2 came off from the 1ist (which was the one that really sparked my thirst as an RPG player), Episode III made up for it in such a way that it doesn't even bother me anymore.

Hmm... but, might you ask why did I decide to buy it? It's the same answer that any self respecting RPG player would give; they buy it because it's fun and it's worth all the patient effort that is being put into its creation.

The only thing I disliked about it is that there should've been more in-depth cut scenes rather than the less dramatized scenes that, while they had the actual characters speaking, it took away some of the dramatic pause and left me feeling kinda dissapointed.

I bought the game because I wanted to complete my collection. I have the other two and I really wanted this one. I couldn't find it around where I live, so I checked here and at first I didn't find any with in my budget. I checked a few days later and found this one that was. The game plays wonderful, there were no scratches. The game is amazing, wonderful graphics and an interesting story line. All three in the trilogy are recommended if you like scifi and robots.

A Great Final Installment of the Xenosaga Trilogy
Review created: 11/26/09
by:

For Xenosaga fans, Xenosaga Episode III does not disappoint. They took most things that worked in Episodes I and II and melded them together for the final game. Graphics are great and the voice acting is much improved over the sometimes not so great acting from Episode II. The story line continues to be deep and the gameplay very good. Character develpoment can take one of two basic directions, depending on how you want to go. I highly recommend this game.

I love it and you should too. I bought it to complete the trilogy. I just wish they would make a Xenosaga IV, V, and VI as they originally had planned.

Excellent end to a great trilogy.
Review created: 08/11/08

X III redeemed itself from the much maligned battle system of X II. (Personally, I didn't think it was that bad.) The story was brought to a cohesive end. The Xenosaga trilogy is truly the best story I've found in a JRPG - even better than those in Final Fantasy. All three games play well. X III is the simplest to play form a game play standpoint but is is NOT boring by any means.

It's actually been almost a year since I played it... I bought this copy because my 2 year old broke disc 1 and I needed to replace it and could not find it at my local GameStops anymore. So hopefully this fact alone is telling of how much I like the game.

I bought this game for my daughter's birthday. She said it was a let down and that the writers should have had more imagination. In all fairness she said it started out great but somewhere along the way turned into a "DaVinci Code-wanna-be."

  Another One, Bites the dust

This game like Episode two, had so much going for it.

But it blew it.

The game while fun at times, has many boring aspects of retracing your steps and punishing you for doing well. The game curves in difficulty from easy ... almost too easy at the start.. to almost impossible near the end. This is brought about by the battles that seem to get you no where. The rewards are meek at best and make the player want to run away more then waste 10 - 15 minutes fighting a battle in order to get a tiny amount of experience from.

Overall this game is average and like that last Episode I wouldn't suggest buying it for another over 10 dollars. Buying it for 1 would be closer to the actual value of this game.
