Album Notes Def Leppard: Joe Elliott (vocals); Vivian Campbell, Phil Collen (guitar, background vocals); Rick "Sav" Savage (bass, background vocals); Rick Allen (drums). Recorded at Joe's Garage, Dublin, Ireland; Polar, Stockholm, Sweden, Rumbo Studios, Los Angeles, California. When these kings of '80s pop metal were making their initial splash on the charts, it would have been hard to predict that the 21st century would find them still intact, much less growing and prospering. Against all odds, weathering virtually every kind of disaster that can befall a rock band, Def Leppard has indeed survived. While many of their contemporaries find themselves churning out the same old sound on the oldies revival circuit, Def Leppard has pulled a Bon Jovi and changed with the times, managing to sound completely contemporary without seeming like sellouts. The panoramic power balladry of "Unbelievable" for example, could easily be a latter-day Aerosmith hit, while its not hard to imagine a post-grunge act like Dishwalla storming the charts with a song like album-opener "Now." That said, there's still plenty of the old Def Leppard magic here for longtime fans; those patented hooks, harmonies and churning guitar riffs that endeared the band to millions are very much present on X, they're just surrounded by some agreeably updated adornments. Reviews I have been with Def Leppard from their beginning. I think I was the very first teenager in my home town to discover this awesome band. I love lots of artist but the Lep is my #1. I love several songs on this CD but never got around to owning it so I went shopping for it on Ebay and voila! Thanks Ebay and Thank you Def Leppard! This has been a very unsettling struggle for me with ebay. Thankfully the CD never arrived at my home address and I never got charged for it, because I never ordered it. I wish ebay would stop sending me e-mails about it being on my profile. Please remove. Thank you. Review ID: 10000000004502232 Was this review helpful? "X" is, without question, THE album for Lep connoisseurs. This isn't a "softer" Def Leppard at all, but a showcase of their growth as artists and as a band. "X" isn't as experimental as the "Slang" album was, but it contains some monster songs you just can't get out of your head from the first time you hear them. Tracks include: 1. Now 2. Unbelievable 3. You're So Beautiful 4. Every Day 5. Long, Long Way To Go 6. Four Letter Word 7. Torn To Shreds 8. Love Don't Lie 9. Gravity 10. Cry 11. Girl Like You 12. Let Me Be The One 13. Scar The Leps' trademark melodic rock sound is better than ever on this release. "Gravity" and "Cry" are the traditional hard-rock contributions to the release, while songs like "You're So Beautiful" and "Let Me Be The One" were ... well, to be honest, they were written especially for me. (At least I like to think so.) "X" also contains the ultimate ballad, "Long, Long Way To Go" that a lot of folks are only just now discovering, thanks to YouTube, MySpace, et al. If the label would have promoted this album properly in the U.S., LLWTG would have been a HUGE hit for the Leps. Whether it hit #1 on the charts or not, "X" is a true showcase of the talents, strengths and growth of an extraordinarily talented and tight group of musicians. Unless the only Lep song you ever loved was "Pour Some Sugar On Me," this is a MUST HAVE album. I keep it in my car so I can listen to it every day.
