Publisher's Note
Carve a slice from the Empire State Building. Look through the Statue of Liberty. See the dreams of architects and engineers take shape as the biggest, boldest, and most bizarre buildings in the world become a reality.

Industry Reviews
Gr 4 Up An interesting look at 10 modern architectural giants of the world, including the Royal Pavilion, the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building, the Sagrada Familia, the Sydney Opera House, and the Kansai Airport. Brief mention is made of some lesser-known skyscrapers, cathedrals, and high-tech structures as well. The text consists of a short history of the building, some biographical notes on the architect and builder, and a smattering of statistics on height, acreage, weight, seating, etc. Detailed drawings and bits of trivia fill the double-page spreads. The full-color, cutaway illustrations are appropriately detailed, yet not always sharp, and the numerous insets make for a somewhat cluttered look. Donati and Illibill's Amazing Buildings (Dorling Kindersley, 1993) is more attractive and includes a better variety of buildings. Jessop's title is a supplemental purchase where needed.
