  World War Z Review
Review created: 11/23/09

One of the best books I've read in months. It had my full attention all the way to the end and I am reading it for the second time at the moment. Nicely written, superb tension, great "what if" scenario.

A few months ago a friend of mine told me that I HAD to read this book. So, I jumped on e-bay thinking that I might be able to find it there, sure enough, there it was. Along with a huge selection of prices and copies! I was beyond happy knowing that I could just get it and have it sent to my house, yet another one of the perks that buying on ebay afford anyone whom wishes to do so.
The book was very well priced and the transaction was quick and simple using my pay pal account. A few days later the book was sitting in my mail box just waiting for me to crack the binding! How bout that, helpful, easy and exactly what I was looking for!

Ebay is good, and I shall continue to use it, and help support the many vendors that also use it.
Thank you.

  A wonder zombie book!
Review created: 01/03/09

Zombies are among us. In a series of journalistic-style interviews and monologues, Max Brooks tracks the institutional and geopolitical missteps that led to the collapse of civilization and follows the intrepid survivors as they tell the story of fighting their way back against a zombie horde of 200 million. Alan Alda, Carl Reiner, Mark Hamill, and a host of others lend their considerable vocal talents to give these interviews a solid realism. China secretly developed a deadly virus. Israel closed its borders. Cuba plotted. And in the United States the Battle of Yonkers was a devastating rout for the U.S. Army. It's all very much in the grand tradition of War of the Worlds.

Editorial Reviews:

From Publishers Weekly. Brooks, the author of the determinedly straight-faced parody The Zombie Survival Guide (2003), returns in all seriousness to the zombie theme for his second outing, a future history in the style of Theodore Judson's Fitzpatrick's War. Brooks tells the story of the world's desperate battle against the zombie threat with a series of first-person accounts "as told to the author" by various characters around the world. A Chinese doctor encounters one of the earliest zombie cases at a time when the Chinese government is ruthlessly suppressing any information about the outbreak that will soon spread across the globe. The tale then follows the outbreak via testimony of smugglers, intelligence officials, military personnel and many others who struggle to defeat the zombie menace. Despite its implausible premise and choppy delivery, the novel is surprisingly hard to put down. The subtle, and not so subtle, jabs at various contemporary politicians and policies are an added bonus. (Sept.)

A Masterpiece of literature, not just a horror story.

World War Z is of course the sequel to the Zombie Survival Guide which is a great work, but World War Z is absolutely one of the best books I have ever read. You might know that the book is the "oral history of the zombie war" and it is presented as a documentary of the accounts of the survivors of the zombie apocalypse. I am fan of any kind of post-apocalyptic fiction, and this is some of the best of it. Every page is a mind blowing thoroughly researched work of art. The author takes into account every aspect of every imaginable (and unimaginable) element of human nature, politics, religion, culture, military theory, geography, and history. I pity anyone who reads this book and does not have a basic appreciation of history and military strategy. To them it would just be a story, but it is so much deeper then that. As far as I know, every real world fact that the author dealt with is well researched and accurate. Not only that, each topic discussed is realistically how one would expect it to effect an apocalypse of the human race by living dead. An intelligent, amazing read from cover to cover, you will not want to put it down!

If you dislike this book, it is not because you are too stupid. The setting is clever and well informed. The details can delight those who recognize them, and educate to those who don't, sometimes thanks to concise footnotes.

That is masturbatory encyclopaedism at it's best, and it comes with auto-rhetoricism at it's most sanctimonious. The politics are one dimensional and so are the characters. This is the kind of custard that comes in plastic cup and you bought along with a ten dollar blouse and a gross of hotdogs.

  A great book.
Review created: 01/31/08

I bought this book because after reading Max Brooks' Survival Guide, I was left hungry for more material from his imaginative take on a Zombie universe. I was happy to find out that this book delivers in droves. The first person accounts are riveting and do a great job of immersing the reader. It's a book you just don't want to put down until you finish it.
