The World Turned Upside Down by Christopher Hill (1991, Paperback, Reprint)

This book is an excellent read for anyone wanting to understand more about the English Revolution or some important background for the American Revolution. As a Marxist historian, Christopher Hill has a very interesting, though astonishingly balanced, perspective of many issues behind the English Revolution. Perhaps the two most interesting aspects are his take on the religious aspect of the revolution and the discussion of Diggers and Levelers in this time period. Hill is a very balanced historian and passionate about the ideas of this time, making for an exciting learning experience.
