Part of THE HUMAN JOURNEY series of educational documentaries about the evolution of civilization, THE CREATIVE EXPLOSION looks at the emergence of human tools, crafts, and artwork. It begins some time after Homo sapiens has left Africa and the Middle East and begun to roam the other parts of the world. Special attention is paid to groups who settled in Asia and Indonesia, who began to change their ways of life because of the challenges of the new environments. One such adaptation was the development of the raft, which led to many changes in those cultures and their social structures. THE CREATIVE EXPLOSION also looks at why human beings invented other tools and first began to express themselves artistically, creating the earliest forms of what we now call "culture."
