Album Notes Contains 14 tracks. This 1991 compilation draws from a 12-year assortment of albums on Woodworm Records, the label founded by Fairport Convention bass player Dave Pegg and his wife to release collective and individual work by the band's musicians. Fairport Convention's relatively stable line-up throughout the '80s resulted in a series of strong titles, beginning with GLADYS' LEAP. These were issued with little of the major-label fanfare which attended Fairport Convention's first decade, and only a devoted following kept Woodworm's cottage industry afloat. THE WOODWORM YEARS culls tracks from GLADYS' LEAP, EXPLETIVE DELIGHTED, RED & GOLD and THE FIVE SEASONS and from solo albums by band members Pegg, Simon Nicol, Ric Sanders and Martin Allcock. Throughout, cleanly arranged and recorded songs celebrate the jigs and reels of Fairport Convention's forebears as well as the songwriting of the band and its contemporaries. Alas, the world still awaits drummer Dave Mattacks' turn at center stage.
