The Woodsman (DVD, 2005)

This is a great movie especially for students or professionals working with clients who have sexually offended. It is also a great movie to show to clients, but I recommed sexually suggestive sceens be deleated before viewing. It shows the complexities involved with offender re-entry into the community. It also shows all phases of the abuse cycle, and shows the development of empathy in the main character. This is not a movie for the faint of heart and I do not recommend it for minors. Parents especially of younger children could find some content distrubing.

Gripping story of a sexual abuser whom was most likely abused himself. Deals

honestly with the shame and struggle to return to society a sex

offender faces.
Also illuminates the tenacity with which criminal behaviors and sexual

deviancy infect many members of our society. Not a "feel good' or

"revenge" film, it's stark, raw, and unshirking in it's depiction of what

abusers and abused suffer and live through everyday. The best and

bravest role ever taken on by Kevin Bacon.

This particular DVD was somewhat spoiled by the trailers of horror

movies, very inappropriate for the serious subject matter of the main

feature. I suggest you skip them entirely.

Having known a child sex offender the majority of my life I can say I know what the characters were feeling, both those that could accept him as well as those that hated him for things he done in the past. The movie brings about a deep look at the thinking of someone that is trying to understand his illness, over come his addictions, as well as the personal relationships he goes through with loved ones, family, as well as co-workers. I would recommend this to anyone that may know a sex offender of any kind, especially those that walk the straight and narow path in life.

treats a very controversial topic in a sensitive, non-graphic way. Shows the other side of sexual offending and issues with that. Very well done with great acting.

I am a big Kevin Bacon fan, and this was one of his movies that I hadn't seen. I typed in the title and it was available. The DVD quality was great. I recommend the movie to all who wonder if you can ever forgive someone for an unspeakable act. The movie also tackles the questions "can a person really change a particular behavior that is not socially acceptable and will never be socially acceptable?" "Does it take will power, medicine, religion, etc. to change the behavior?"

Powerful movie, great acting and great storyline, i bought this movie because it takes a look on real life.

It was an excellent piece of work - Kevin did an awesome job. Kyra was a cool gal. I think it was well worth the watch.
