No recipes here...just total wood burning technology.

O.K...so you may not find grandma's recipes or any other wood 'cook' stove nostalgia here...for that please buy Woodstove Cookery by Jane Cooper, another excellent book in my collection.
BUT, if you are SERIOUS about burning wood for heat, getting off the "grid", and/or disaster preparedness for when the power goes out, then THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU! The author covers it all, and I mean ALL:
~history of fuel shortages in America (remember lining up at the gas station for 2 hours?),
~how to build a chimney,
~how to use and maintain a chainsaw,
~the correct size hearth pad for your stove,
~stove installation,
~types of woodstoves (American and Scandinavian),
~flame "paths" (how a draft circulates inside the stove),
~different types of trees for firewood and their "burn" times,
~a Comparison of Various Fuels Needed to Produce 18.12 Million Btu of Heat (wood vs. oil, electricity, natural gas, bottled gas and coal),
~what exactly is a BTU? (British Thermal Unit),
~and several charts and black and white pictures of many BOX stoves and PARLOR stoves (remember, no cook stoves).
Whew! I think that's it. Oh, and one more thing: how to grow your own woodlot...look out Grizzly Adams!
