Wonderworks - The Chronicles of Narnia - Boxed Set (DVD, 2002, Three Disc Boxed Set)

Wonderful movie! Thought I would be bored of it at first, but sat on the edge of my seat the entire time!

My wife Kitty watched this when it was on PBS a long time ago. She finally got me to buy it for her because she wants our kids to see this before they see the new version. She would recomend that people who have not see the original should. Its full of fun and adventure and has alot of great points that are made through out the entire series. If your thinking about buying please do so you wont be disappointed.

For all the computerized pyrotechnics that Hollywood threw at it, the new version of the Chronicles of Narnia left something lacking for me. Something really big... or should I say, someone. "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" is a parable about coming unto Christ. Today's mega-million-dollar version totally missed that. Hollywood portrayed the Pevensie children as weak and squabbling spoiled brats who whined about any duty or destiny which had no personal perks for them. I half-expected them to hoist "Make Love Not War" signs and smoke pot as Narnia crumbled around them. C.S. Lewis would be rolling in his grave. So thank HEAVEN that the BBC decided to set their hand to the task way back before Peter and Edward were rock stars whose posters prepubescent tweenagers hung on their walls. The BBC/Wonderworks version is true to the text, and more importantly, true to the intent for which Lewis wrote the series in the first place. He wrote it to explain to children evil in the world, just as Tolkein wrote Lord of the Rings. Some folks complain that the BBC/Wonderworks version is campy, corny, or just plain B-version. But, ya know... I'd take a campfire version of anything, played by amateurs who understand the intent of the story and believe it themselves, over any dolled up, glossed-over, God-omitting modern screenplay with actors who do not comprehend or believe that sometimes there are things that are greater than themselves. Sometimes there are things worth personal sacrifice. My only wish is that BBC had made all the books into movies and not just the three. If you believe in God and love this series because you see how it illustrates true principles about God, if you are one of those parents who have read this series aloud to your children, please buy this movie version of the story while you still can... the souped-up one can wait.

First of , we decided to purchase the set of the Narnia DVD's because after seeing the first one on TV we knew if was a good clean movie for my grandkids. Second, my husband and I were glued to the TV as well. Third, the first was such a grand movie that any to follow had to be great as well. And last but not least, they are made by Christians and had to be a good movie, it is so hard to find a good movie that keeps the entire family interested and without smutt.
Well, worth the money! ! !

I like these DVDs because the are the BBC version of this classic tale. I fint these follow the book much closer.

I love how well it goes along with the books, right on target! I don't think they left a bit of it out. Of course they can't compare to the recent Narnia movie releases but, hey, they were made in the 80's and I think they did very well for back then! Excellent item for the Narnia lovers! Highly recommended!

This is so much better for my children than the modern trash Hollywood is shoving into our lives. This is common sense, not rocket-science.

great DVD set, I watched these as a kid and was so happy to see a box set was made available for these movies!

We have these in VHS and want to replace them with DVD. In some ways I like this production better than the Disney one, but I have Both. My only regret is that no-one has produced all the books into movies. I read the books over again occasionally, but I watch the movies over and over again, at least once a year, sometimes more!

I loved these books and movies growing up and remember reading and watching them on TV. I love the fact that you can see it in the crisp DVD format. The colors are so fresh and clean that the movie jumps off the screen at you. I also lovr the fact that all three titles come in a set. Great buy have seen each title sell for what I bought the whole set for.

I had purchased it once before as a gift. Watched the movie and really liked it. So I thought, before I will not be albe to purchase it again. I buy it.

It's a well made movie and my grandchildren liked the movie, as well as the book. More movies like this should be made.

I bought it as a Christmas gift for my mom, and she loved it. It was a good price and they delivered it as promised.

My son and I watched these together many times when he was 4+ years old. This is my favorite version as it is so very well done and the characters are so well developed that I felt, even as an adult, that I knew each one. I'm giving this set to my younger sister who has Downs Symdrome. I know she'll love it and I'll be there to protect yet another child from the White Witch :). Happy imagining!!!!!!

My 4 year old has been fascinated with the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe since seeing a movie poster. We have read a couple of the books with him but weren't comfortable with him seeing the movie released last year. This BBC (British PBS) version was tame enough for him and stayed true to the story. We first rented it from the library and later rented the Silver Chair. I was delighted to see the DVD version and he has really enjoyed having his own set!

I would watch these movies a lot when I was little and I still love them just as much! I was thrilled to find them on dvd! In my opinion these are the classic C.S. Lewis books come to life! Terrific family movies! I could watch them over and over!

I remember the series when it was on PBS wonderworks, I think. The special effects aren't as special as the recently released movies, but the stories are much more faithful to the original works. I was disappointed when they did not continue to film the other three narnia books.
