  Financial Planning for Women

This is a must read for all women! Ms. Orman gives basic, practical advice on financial planning. Women & Money is an easy to read book written for those of us who aren't necessarily financially saavy. Ms. Orman explains the principles of sound financial planning in an easy to understand and engaging manner. She breaks it down, chapter by chapter, into manageable steps to take. Don't get me wrong, this book goes well beyond the basics, but it's presented in such a way that it's manageable and easily understood. What's unique about this book is its approach and perspective for women. It really made me rethink some of my previous notions regarding finances. For example, Ms. Orman suggests that NOT putting money away into our own personal retirement account is selfish! As women we tend to put others first, especially our families. It's hard for us to think about taking money from the family finances and putting it into an account just for us. The thought behind this is, if you can't afford to put the money aside now, how will you be able to afford it when you are no longer working and your income is reduced? Ms. Orman goes on to explain that doing without a little now is better for our family than having us dependent on them in our old age. After all, if we aren't set up for retirement, who's going to take care of us? Certainly not Social Security! Ms. Orman also encourages women to have accounts in their name alone. It's fine to have joint accounts with your husband/partner, however, you need to have your own personal accounts as well. In the event of a divorce or death, a woman who has established her own credit and financial security, independent of her husband, will be in a much stronger position financially. As an added bonus, TD Ameritrade is offering a fantastic incentive for readers of Women & Money. It's certainly an offer you shouldn't pass up!

I like the fact this book is geared to women because we do have the money concerns as men; but different life concerns that effect the way we think/behave when dealing with money. I really like the book and how it instructs someone to look at money with their heads and not always thier hearts.

I read this book cover to cover within a week after receiving it. It's worth the price just for the information about the money market account. Suze gives some really solid advice on setting your house in order and gives you the time frame in which to do it. She breaks it all down into steps so it is not too difficult or overwhelming. I believe this book can set your mind at ease, whether you are a woman or man, if you just follow her instructions. I highly recommend this book. It has my 18 year-old daughter already planning her financial future. Thanks to information like Suze's, my children can have a brighter future. Why didn't anyone teach us this stuff years ago? A must read!

A Financial Plan for every Woman and every Daughter
Review created: 12/29/07(updated 12/29/07)

This book should be in every woman's personal library, and please pass this information on to your daughters.

Suze has really got it together and is passing it along to the rest of us ladies.I recommend you read every word, although in places you are told "if you already know about this skip to ...." I'm glad i didn't skip what i thought i already knew.

Ms. Ormand covers just about everything you need to know about protecting yourself financially, Balancing your check book, investing, ira's and retirement planning, wills, trusts, estate planning, insurance, credit cards, credit scores,in a manner that is simple and easy to understand. She takes you on a step by step plan with the hope that at the end of five months you will be able to chart your progress and feel the pride and relief that comes with being in control of a part of your life that until now has remained outside your grasp.Suze offers good advice aimed at helping us to be the best us we can be.

Knowledge is power and power is control. There is never a better time than now to make a committment to take control of our life and future.

As an added bonus T.D.Ameritrade is offering a $100.00 bonus to qualified investers through this book. This offer expires 3/31/08 I think i am going to go for that extra cash.I save $ 50.00 a month for 12 months and they give me $100.00 more.Every little bit helps!

I originally picked up this book at the library. While reading it, I realized that I HAD to have this book. This book should be given to every girl who graduates from high school. If I had received it, it would have saved me years of bad decisions about money. Suze Orman has such a wonderful, conversational style of writing, that you feel as if she is talking right to you. I loved it!

Suze explains in easy to understand terms how you can take control of your money and your life by following a few simple steps. She is humorous, down to earth and her book is actually a pleasure to read while you learn how to take care of your money yourself. Remember Suze fans, "people first, then money, then THINGS".

Great book for women (and men)

I had read this book before and enjoyed it. I bought two copies for my neices. Orman provides good no nonsense advice for men and women. I feel I can trust her advice. I have followed her advice in many aspects of my finances, and have not suffered from the recession as yet. Yes, I lost money on investments, but I have time for those investments to recover. I was reasonable well positioned prior to the downturn. Each chapter contains action steps to get the reader on firm financial footing. Highly recommneded.

Written in a manner that is like discusing finances with girlfriends while having wine and cheese. Inspirational. This book gives you the feeling that the author really cares and really wants you to learn, or better learn to handle the money in your life...without the help of a man.

  Play It Smart

This is a must have for women, the younger the better. I got it because I was having a midlife crisis and realized I have very little is in my name despite being married 20 years.

I hadn't a clue of my credit score, FICO score, or anything about investing despite me doing the bill paying and saving. This book walks you step by step into learning about these things and keeps it simple enough to understand.

Suze is very encouraging and understanding of the special situation women are in esp. now We are earning more money and yet still have the mentality of not holding property, bank accts. etc.

Men do not get it because always the financial side has been in their favor and/or we assume they know about this stuff when in reality they may not as I found out with my own husband. Don't rely on that man to take care of you. You need to take care of yourself even if just for a sense of security and pride. It isn't stingy, it is smart.

This book is a good overview for men and women alike. I bought copies for my sister and my daughter, and my dad has also read. Some of the information is not applicable to me personally, but the bottom line is that this book presents uncomplicated, common sense information. A quick and easy read, Women and Money demonstrates that its never too early or late to save and even the smallest amounts will pay off in the long run. Regardless of your investment risk tolerance, it's a very good guide that deals with not only investments, but other products such as wills, trusts, estates, etc. I also recommend buying a used book (sorry Suze) to save money and recycle to help save our environment.

Definitely a book for anyone wanting to take control of finances for the first time. A book with a female slant explaining why and how to care for basic money transactions. If you already balance your checkbook, have a savings account, manage your credit card accounts, you may not need this book but will still find valauable information. If you are just starting to be on your own, whether 18 or 60, it will help you get on the right financial track.

Suze Orman books are easy to read and makes financial mumbo jumbo understandable for everyone.

I have been an advocate of Suze for years. Love her Saturday evening shows, too!
This book has a wealth of information even for those who think they know exactly what they are doing with their money as well as protecting their assets.
She writes both from the heart as well as the head moving you in directions you perhaps might have avoided in the past. Do read this book. Even if you only take half of her advice, I can assure you that your money will have been well spent!
Thanks Suze for encouraging women to take control not only their money, but their lives and future as well!
