I love this book because it has ALL of the answers when it comes to breastfeeding! I recommend this book ESPECIALLY to first time moms, and it makes a GREAT GIFT! Anything by the La Leche League is worth the money!!!....it helped me to survive the first weeks, poor latch on, mastitis, the thrush, and then a weakening of my milk supply around the 4th month....answered my questions to help me correct all of these problems...still going strong! :-) I have actually bought this book for three other new moms!!

  WONDERFUL basic Breastfeeding Guide

LOVED this book! I read the first 5 or so chapters before I had my son and things went just beautiful for us. There's a good chance that would have happened anyway, but I felt so much more confidence in my ability to know if I was breastfeeding correctly or not. The nurses at the hospital commented a lot on how much I knew and how well it was all going. This book was my main point of reference.

Since then I have become a Lactation Educator, Childbirth Educator and Birth Doula and require this as reading for my clients and students.

This book covers most of the common questions new moms have about breastfeeding. It also covers some of the most common problems and offers solutions. I feel that it is a good basic breastfeeding reference.

  Best book ever about breastfeeding

When I was a young mother in the 70s-80s, this was the book I turned to. It helped me be successful at breastfeeding. It always has a positive tone. Any problem can be overcome or has a solution. I often gave it to others as a baby shower gift. It was a great supplement to La Leche League meetings. I also recommended it to my childbirth education students. Of course, I had one of the earlier editions. Now my daughter is expecting her first baby, and I bought this recent edition for her. It's the best book on nursing your baby out there.

  Greatest Breastfeeding Book Available

This is my second copy of this book! I love this book so much that I lend it to my friends and family when I am not using it. I decided to buy a new copy because this is a newer version than my other copy. the first copy is still in use and this one will be lent out soon. if you ever have a question about nursing your baby this is the reference guide for you. La Leche league is a wonderful organization and even if you don't get to go to meetings this book can help...it's great to have if you do go to meetings too!

Great guide from pregnancy tips, to feeding right after birth, starting solids, pumping & storing milk, nipple/breast problems, correct latching, weening, to toddler nursing. This book has it all.

I absolutely LOVE this book. I purchased my first copy in 1985, while pregnant with my first baby and now it is more than twice as thick. It covers nutrition, sleeping, everything! And is a perfect resource of support & information for mother's, babies & even dad's. Every woman whom is even just thinking about having a baby should get it!

Perfect title for the Bible of Breastfeeding

I bought this book for a friend that is expecting her first baby. I chose to give her this book because it is a phenominal resource for any mother new or experienced who choses to nurse thier child. Breastfeeding ensures the best possible nutrition for a newborn baby in every sense of the word. The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding covers every possible situation that a nursing mother may come across and throughly explains what has caused the issue as well as what can be done to correct and prevent further issues. You couldn't ask for a better gift for a expectant mother as well as for the expectant father since it will help to demystify the process in a language that is easy to understand! I can't say enough about this book and feel that EVERY mother should have this book on thier nightstand.

Great book for beginners and experienced moms

I bought this book after the birst of my first baby, when I experienced trouble nursing. I might have stopped, but turned to this book as a reference to help solve some of the problems I was having. What I found in this book was solid advice, support for my efforts, and new knowledge about the entire process of nursing. I was more educated about nursing after having read it, and was able to resolve my nursing difficulties nursing with its help. In this book, you will find how-to information, including tasteful pictures, of the basics of nursing, and troubleshooting (everything from latch problems to mom's dietary considerations). You will also find lots of naturalistic, holistic advice. But even if you don't subscribe to that way of thinking, there is plenty of good, useful, and smart advice.

My word of advice, however, is to read this book prior to the birth of your baby. Had I studied more before my baby's birth, I might have had an easier time at the beginning. This book is the perfect study aid.

As a new LLL member I found this book essential for breastfeeding issues that may not come up during group meetings. I find myself more prepared and better able to help friends who do not attend meetings with me.

I am anticipating a birth of a child and am committed to breastfeed. This book was recommended and it has been very helpful. It goes into great detail the joys and challenges that can occur while breastfeeding. It also provides information for further support that can be found in one's community. I highly recommend it to anyone.

This book gives great advice and support for the breastfeeding mother. It is encouraging and informative. Breast is best for baby. I read the older edition with my first child 11 years ago. I just purchased this new edition for our 4th child due this Thanksgiving. It is even better now!

The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding by LA Leche League Int

While this book does have many helpful tis in it, it basically makes it out that if you have problems breastfeeding, you must be doing something wrong and that you have failed your child in some way. It is also pretty much one big advertisement for the La Leche League. Though it points out their vast knowledge about all things breastfeeding, it makes it seem as if they are they are the only source of good and practical information about breastfeeding. In all, it was worth the read for the tips they give you, but I got tired of them tooting their own horn so often and the bad vibes I got for having misgivings and doubts about my ability to breastfeed.
