If your tired of all the new sound alike bands (everybody wants to be Nickelback) you have to hear this band. They are in a league of thier own. They sound like a mixture of Zepplin, Sabbath, Hendrix, and the Beatles. Real Rock & Roll from a young band??? It's hard to believe but true!

After hearing 'Dimension' months before the debut came out, I was, needless to say, pretty excited about Wolfmother and the upcoming debut. Although 'Dimension clearly ripped off Sabbath's 'Black Sabbath' in its chorus, the band seemed promising enough to give a listen. Upon picking up the debut album though, I was hopelessly dissappointed. The songwriting is atrocious, it rarely makes sense--and when it does, it seems written by a 13 year old D&D player. On top of that, the album is just plain boring and derivative. Many times the band had an opportunity to delve off into some uncharted territory and try something new, but I was always brought back to the same intro/verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge format. There is basically one riff to each song, and while neat enough at first, the monotony becomes grinding by three minutes in. There are a few promising ideas on this debut, but overall the songs are easily interchangable and bland, and the vocalist's voice grinds on one's nerves very quickly.

Standout tracks:
Dimension, Pyramid

Good effort for a first release

I bought the CD for the "Joker and the Thief" cut. I heard that on a video on FUEL. It's a really good tune. But, the rest of the CD is good as well. It took a couple of times through, but I like the whole CD. This band puts out a lot of music for just three artists. Lots of potential here. I am looking forward to the next CD.

Wolfmother- Music that connects our Generations
Review created: 05/10/08

After hearing a Sample of this band's music, I was Impressed by their Lyrics more than anything else. This Music is Modern, yet is NOT heavy metal or anything like that. It focuses on some of todays real issues and their music Spans across Generations.
I have nothing bad to say about this band.

Hard rock had many years to give us a record like this one!Melodic, powerful and emotional. It has the feeling of the 70's and Black Sabbath meets Thin Lizzy on this one!!!I vote it as the best album of the year when it was released. Also check their Dvd.They are too good on stage to miss them.
10/10

  Wolfmother CD Kicks Ass!
Review created: 11/05/06

I heard the track "Woman" on the A&E show "Driving Force" and loved it! Then I heard it again on a local radio station. I listen to a few other tracks, and it was a must have CD! The band has a 60's type sound of like the Yardbirds, and other harder edge Rock Music. I highly recommend this CD as a great choice to add to any music lover's collection!!

excellent stoner rock, this band will last

This record is put together well. You don't have to be a fan of just the "stoner rock" genre to get into this album. I hear old Ozzie, Zeppelin, and a huge dose of 70's boot cut wrangler power in this bad boy. If this record doesn't inspire you go to buy a 4 foot gravity bong and hang black light posters all over your room, nothing will!!!!

  Top Notch Rock & Roll
Review created: 07/04/06
by:

This CD is good from start to finish. Sure I have favorite tunes on this album, but there's not a great deal of letdown on any of the songs (rare enough these days). I bought this album on a hunch after catching a piece of Dimension on a local Public Access Video Show (Thank you Steve on Wheels & Maximum Velocity!) and I was NOT disappointed. These guys rock, and they somehow manage to remain fresh and current even as they tease you with music that sounds as though it came from Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, or even The Beatles. Ebay needs a rating higher than "Excellent".

  WOLFMOTHER- Simply A Good Band
Review created: 07/03/06
by:

I like this band for their simplicity. I bought this CD and discovered that rock could be interesting if you keep it simple. Not to say that Wolfmother's music is simple-minded (or am I for that matter); their sound is simple to understand, familiar. First of all, the lead singer sounds like an early day Ozzy Osbourne. Wolfmother's sound is not as similar to Black Sabbath as is the vocalist, but they do have a sound of that era.
This band has come up with an original sound, and in the process connected with an era that had the best rock music (late 60's to mid 70's) while keeping a modern edge (not much guitar soloing). I like the fact that when I listen to Wolfmother I can tell they are a modern band, yet they remind me of band's from generations past. There is not much. I dislike about the CD.
The lack of complexity in the music can be dry. I know, it sounds contradictory (I said I liked the simplicity of their music), yet it could make some of the tracks more fun if they took divergent paths into the mysteries of the unknown, but I guess that's just not Wolfmother's style. Besides there are plenty of bands out there making music that I can't understand: 1. Where they are coming from or 2. Where they are going. Wolfmother is a band that's missing all the "pretentious attitude about nothing" that annoys me about other bands. The opening track on the CD starts off with a Rebel Yell kind of scream. It seems their calling as a band is to have fun.
Wolfmother is a fun band to listen to, their name is unique, they are unique. They are from Australia, and that adds a bit of extra coolness to the band for me. You could call them alternative, but that term seems so cliche'. If they must be categorized, to put it simply; they rock.
