Wolf Creek (DVD, 2006, Unrated)

We are huge fans of Horror Films, so we bought this movie at the same time as we bought Hostel. I must say I was equally disappointed with both of them. Wolf Creek starts off REALLY slow just as Hostel does, but at least it's a storyline about 3 friends who go on a roadtrip and not some bad soft porn show. I enjoyed this one a tiny bit more only for the fact that "IF" you make it to the end of the film it does actually have a "scariness" about it, (in a very small dose though), and not just a Bloody, Gore fest like Hostel is. Neither movie was anything close to what I call a "scarey" movie. They just don't seem to know how to make em' scarey anymore. If you are thinking of adding this to your Horror collection, my advice would be to rent it first, before you spend your $ on it. And if you want to see one that is really scarey... my suggestion is to look for a movie called "High Tension", it is badly dubbed, but the movie itself is way more scarey!

Luckily, I rented this "horror" flick before purchasing it- I chose not to purchase it after one hasty viewing. It was an awful, cornea- burning, slow- motion experience. The movie starts out OK- three friends on a trip. But in the end you are left with wondering, "WHO IS THAT STUPID?" The answer is, "No one. No one is quite as inexplicably stupid as the characters in this movie."
Bottom Line: Don't waste your time or your money.

For the first 50 minutes or so the movie is extremely boring, then it steps it up just a notch...BUT, Just as soon as it seems the movie might really get rocking, it ends...Poor writing and poor acting...

BTW...A review below got it wrong about "The Hills Have Eyes"...True, a version was released in 2006, but it is a remake of the original Wes Craven version released in 1977 here in the USA...

This was actually a good movie. I think some of the criticism it receieves is due partly because most people have become desensitized by all of the movies with bloody gore and sick horror. Taking it for what it is, Wolf Creek is not a horror movie. Its actually a pretty good suspense-filled drama with a few scenes of graphic horror depicting a Australian Serial Killer and three young kids traveling the country. Wolf Creek shot like a reality show. The first half of it being about their journey, but even that always had the added suspense of not knowing what or when the danger was going to happen. Take it for what it is, Wolf Creek was a good movie in its own right and was not a waste of money at all. If you decide to purchase it, I recommend you get it here on ebay than in a retail outlet store. Enjoy!

First & foremost, like most of the DVDs I buy, I bought this one because of the price. Bought from a reputable seller, which I know doesn't deal in any bootlegs & also gives a discount for multiple DVDs.

The movie itself was pretty good. A very slow lead-in to the 2nd half of the movie, which leant itself into making u believe this could really happen. This could really be you there. A nice thrilling horror story.

I'd say pretty good dispite the very slow begining. Cut this movie in half and it would be excellent. Never the less very good acting with very believealbe story line. Worth owning if your a horror fan like me.

This movie was awesome! It's hard to find a cool movie that's as brutal as this one today, especially based on true events! The killer was great; starting off so nice with the tourists, but the slight change in his demeanor, after the joke at his expense made by the man of the group of tourists, let's you know instantly that things will hit the fan later that night. He's so calm and nonchalant, even going so far as to carry on conversation, as he kills his victims. Top-notch movie, highly recommended!!

Just when you thought it was safe to go hiking in the bushes again...along comes Mick Taylor. Kristy, Ben and Liz are three pals in their twenties who set out to hike through the scenic Wolf Creek National Park in the Australian Outback. The trouble begins when they get back only to find that their car won't start. The trio think they have a way out when they run into a local bushman named Mick Taylor. Wait until you get a load of what Mick has in store for them. Their troubles have just begun.

In 1999, Ben Mitchell (Nathan Phillips) and his two British girlfriends Liz Hunter (Cassandra Magrath) and Kristy Earl (Kestie Morassi) buy an old car to travel through the outback of Australia with little money. Their first stop is to visit a meteor crater in the isolated Wolf Creek National Park. When they go to their car, they find that it does not start and without option, they decide to spend the night in the car. Later, a local friendly man, the hillbilly Mick Taylor (John Jarrat), stops his truck, offers to help the trio, finds that they need to replace the coil and proposes to tow them to his camp, where he could fix the car. When they accept the proposal, their dreamy vacation turns into a scary nightmare.

This movie is great if you are a Fan of Horror Movies I and my Cousin injoyed it a lot And its bassed on true story which you can read about on the enternet...type in..Wolf Creek..

WHEN THE TRIO RETURNS FROM A FOUR-HOUR HIKE TO WOLF CREEK NATIONAL PARK, THEY FIND THEIR CAR IS DEAD.HELP COMES IN THE FORM OF A BIG,BACK-SLAPPING BUSHMAN.SINCE HE APPEARS TO BE MORE CROCODILE DUNDEE THAN FREDDY KRUEGER THE TRIO TRUSTS HIM... WHICH PROVES TO BE A GRAVE MISTAKE.BASED ON TRUE EVENTS.

Having returned from the Outback and only hearing about Wolf Creek... I had to see it for myself! I am glad that I didn't see this movie BEFORE we were driving around the middle of nowhere Australia after dark!

It is a good movie ,very violent but the story it is well created my understanding is that is based in a true story,that make it even more scary

Although it is not one of the scarest movies I have seen it is still worth watching. I purchase a lot of horror movies and I did enjoy it. Not my favorite but still a good horror movie.

If you can stay awake for the 1st 45 minutes of this.....It will GET YOUR ATTENTION.I had a hard time understanding some Aussie lingo but the acting was good and the bad guy was really BAD! Yeah that's gonna leave a mark!!
Not as good as WRONG TURN, but if you are a fan of SLASHER MOVIES like I am it's worth a look.

The film may seem like one that drags on, but for someone who is a film student, this is amazing direction. The camera shots really give the sense of isolation, not to mention this is based off of a true story. Luckily though, the murderer is now in jail. .../shrug
Dun' take my word for it though, I just fancy AU.

Look..the begining is slow..so what. It establishes the charachters...(I didn't rent it for months until 3 people said you just have to get through the beginning.
I am very harsh and don't like stupid horror movies or just blood...I liked it..the bad guy was very well played..and no it's not FANTASTIC..but it is tense and then to find out in the end that it BASICALLY (some parts filled in of course) really happened made it equally chilling. So that's my oppionin..but I liked it ...for a scarey movie that is :)

A great horror flick is hard to write, so I have been lenient on them. With that said, OK, joining the family of movies with folks getting lost only to find gruesome fates, England jumps in with 'Wolf Creek'. If your interested I did the research for the following...

Wolf Creek = 2005 England
Wrong Turn = 2003 Canada
Hills Have Eyes = 2006 U.S.
Detour = 2003 Australia.

Four countries have their own versions of this plot. By date (see above) you can tell who copied who first. It seems that Wolf Creek at the end 'hints' at their story being true. It never comes out clear and says it. I think that's an 'AKA' Blair Witch plot tactic. Wolf creek was OK. It was worth the ebay buy and worth pay per view. $11.00 in a movie house plus $10 for popcorn candy and soda... I may have reduced the rating to below average. As the other ratings said , I agree. Scary and the protagonist is a sick S.O.B. If you saw any of the other 3 movies I listed (AKA-The Family) then you will like Wolf Creek. I don't provide spoilers so that's all I'll say. My opinion though, Wrong Turn was the best! Followed by Hills Have Eyes, then Detour, then Wolf Creek. If the price is right, SEE THEM ALL! You'll have fun like I did comparing them! Wolf Creek is 'suppose' to be based on true events. If that's true, I'll give 'extra credit'.

I bought this DVD because a friend of mine had said it scared him. It is impressively shot and the bad guy is really bad! He is really bad because at first he seems quite helpful. Maybe it was the Aussie accents but it's been a long time since I've felt as uncomfortable as I did when I watched Wolf Creek. Possibly I'm attracted to these kinds of thrillers which are "based on true events" like this movie.

This seems to be a love it or hate it kind of movie based on the reviews here and elsewhere. I thought it was one of the scariest movies I've seen since (my all time favorite) the original Texas Chainsaw Masacre. Granted the 1st half of the movie is rather slow but that gives us time to care for the charecters. The last half gets just brutal & is truly frightening. Similar to "Hostel" and "High Tension" w/ it's torture scenes and blood & gore. I would give it 4 & 1/2 stars if I could. Worth a rental if not owning.

Half of this film could be cut out without altering the story. You have to sit through 45 minutes of total nothing to get to the plot. And then the plot is the same tired theme from 100s of other horror movies. Not worth paying to see it.

This is a great movie, I liked the style, the characters the subject manner and how it was all put together, great acting, I just wish there had been more nudity.
Plus I got it for a very descent price and quickly.
