  Wizard's First Rule Great Book

This is by far one of the best first books in a massively produced genre that hosts many fantasy series, sagas, and great authors. Goodkind really keeps readers involved and anxious with his descriptive, creative, and intriguing writing style. There is just enough action to get you involved and just enough dialogue to get a true fell for the characters. He doesn't go over the top with pages of meaningless descriptive nonsense like some other authors seem to always do. Truly an original piece of work, filled with a world full of new creatures and ideas. This is one of the books that I blame for really getting me so interested in reading in the first place, and anyone that picks this one up will not put it down until the last page.

RATING: 5 / 5 STARS

Recommended Authors: Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time Series)
George R.R. Martin (A Song of Ice and Fire Series)
Terry Goodkind (The Sword of Truth Series)
J.R.R. Tolkien (The Hobbit, Lord of The Rings)

This book will grip your imagination and leave you wanting for more.
Not only do you finish and then do you realize that your world views and your very own perception have been thrown out the window.

With philosophical questions that leave them up to you to answer, Terry Goodkind leaves you to find out the meanings within the words.

Must Read!!! Must Buy!!!

You will not regret reading it!!!
Best Read of a lifetime !!!

The fantasy book that will hook you ont he series
Review created: 06/07/09

Not quite sure where to begin with this book. I have read it several times (in soft cover edition) and decided to buy the hardcover version because I loved it so much. Forbidden love, ancient secrets, ancient magic, hidden identities, it's got it all. I bought this book originally on a whim, with some left over money on a gift card, and now I own the entire series, all 12 books. The author makes you think with these books, makes you think about your own life. His writing style creates vivid images in your head, with the perfect mixture of description, and actual story. Characters are real, and you can relate to them (in the oddest ways sometimes) Book has moderate vocabulary, not 'baby' words like all these new series like twilight, and harry potter. Sentences are beautifully written.

Overall ? I highly recommend it. There's only 20 or so books that I have in display for easy access, out of almost 400 books (I get deployed alot :P) and 12 of those books are the Sword of Truth series, which this is the debut of.

Hope this review was helpful ! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions... I don't sell any of these books but would be happy to get you hooked haha :)

  READ IT!!!

This book (and series) is a must read for any fantasy lover... It's hard to find fantasy authors that don't just re-write LOTR... Terry Goodkind creates an amazing world that will keep every reader guessing the entire way through the series... Just as you figure it out it will change all over again... Many characters are developed throughout the series (not just in this book), and readers will fall in love with even the villans... READ IT!!!

disclaimer (book has mature content, recommend 17+)

Finally a Sci- Fi book you can read over and over again

I picked this book up by accident one day and fell in love with it. There are so many plots. turns and twists. Excellent characters, which the author develops so well. I wish the series would be produced as a film. I don't know how many times I have reread it. Richard the woods guide (and so much more to be discovered, Kahlan, the beautiful lonely Mother Confessor, Zedd the teacher, grandfather, and wizard (who is my favorite character)plus you can't forget all the bad guys, especially Lord Rahl !!! I have all the books of the series (Sword of Truth) and I'm disappointed there is only one book left to conclude the series... Every page is exciting, and Terry doesn't just ramble, he leaves you anticipating the next book every time.

This book will change your life!
Review created: 06/27/09

This book was the one that changed my point of view what it meant to read books. After had been tipped about it by my Uncle I was in for a ride that was totally unexpected! With such enjoyment from such a profound story with ultra realistic characterization and addictive human themes, I found myself enjoying the book with grotesque proportions. I really found a new significance "how" to enjoy a book. I fell in love with this book even after the first chapter (that is quite rare!) and Terry Goodkind makes you strive to know what will be revealed in the next chapter! So it's a dangerous loop: you read long into the nights and until your eyes hurt - yet you continue since you have this longing of the unknown knowledge that yearns to be revealed. So it's almost like a drog, but a very positive one! :) Once started - you cannot completely stay out the world Terry Goodkind created and the persons therein. All seem too real somehow ... I call it real magic!

Do yourself a lifetime favor: pick up 'Wizard's First Rule' fast! Lifetime-regret if you not....

It will change your life, more or less.

Or have you already read it? Maybe just recently? Felt like the best book? Yeah I know the feeling. I had the same first time. Well... that was until I sweeped into the second installment of the series: Stone Of Tears!
:)

Extremely entertaining book. Action packed and enough mystery to keep the reader guessing. Character development is not the center of the book, the story is.

Think Danielle Steel but with wizards and dragons

If what you want is to shut your mind off after a hard day but without the hangover or the video game headache, then you might want to pick up Wizard's First Rule. The emotional focus of the book is mainly on the romance between the two leads, Richard and Kahlan, which is deeply angsty and, while unrealistic, satisfyingly intense. The story has enough suspense to hold a reader's interest, but don't walk in expecting a consistent universe or an intellectually satisfying ending.

Overall, Wizard's First Rule is not very well written. Whenever Goodkind writes himself into a corner, some new magical spell or beastie that we've never heard of before shows up as a plot point ex machina. There's also a lot of sleaze. It isn't that the story involves sex, rape, violence and other prurient elements so much as that sex, rape and violence are slathered in on top of the plot for cheap thrills. The characters come off as type caricatures. Rachel is the Piteous Little Girl. Zedd is the Wise(cracking) Old Man. Rahl is Big Bad.
