Wizard and Glass - Book 4 of the Gunslinger Series
Review created: 03/10/09
by:

I am re-reading the entire series from Book 1 (The Gunslinger) which I first read in the 80 and 90s when they were first published. In my opinion this Volume was the best of the three preceeding it...with Roland reliving a great love story in a night-long palaver with Jake, Susannah, and Eddie. This story line proved to me that Stephen King can write a romance as good as any of the "romance" authors. It is at once powerful, wonderful and heart breaking. His love for Susan has been mentioned before but in this book we get to meet her and to understand better what motivates Roland. I am now re-listening to Wolves of the Calla on CD which I am finding I understand much better so far this time around. Wolves picks up where Wizard and Glass leaves off. I think being able to go from one volume to the other seamlessly without having to wait is a wonderful way to relive and re-discover King's life's work series. The first published volumes were sometimes many months apart so many times the flow of the story was lost. I urge King fans to go back through this series again; you'll be surprised how much it will hold your interest even if you've read the last book.

  Series Books
Review created: 03/12/08

A person doesn't start out reading a book, thinking I will not be done with this story for about.......10 years. But sequels and prequels can be so consuming, but in a good way. Although, I am a Stephen King fan, I did not "get into" The Gunslinger series until my husband started reading them. Needless to say, I have had to go back and find books I had not read. I have enjoyed this on going story, as if I were a young kid and my parents were reading me a chapter a night and could not wait until we read again tonight.

  Anything You Want
Review created: 04/08/07

Anything you want- you can find it here. I am a voracious reader and book collector. As with most Stephen King books, I bought Wizard And Glass in a first edition when it was first released. However- there was a problem- one set of 28 pages was repeated, and one set of 28 pages was missing. I didn't want to give it up because, in some small way, it is a collector's item. But it has bothered me for years that I never knew what happened in those missing 28 pages. But thanks to Ebay, now I know.

A love lost story, gives depth and passion
Review created: 09/23/06

When I first picked up this book I was not happy about the detour from Roland’s travels to listen to a love story from his past for almost the entire book. The story gave not only depth to the character of Roland but brought some pieces of the story along that would have been hard to add in later in the story. While it is a love story it is a hard one that ends how you expect a love story to end for a gunslinger and shows us how some of the sprit of the gunslinger is crafted
