The Wizard of Oz (DVD, 2005, Special Edition)

One of the most cherished fantasy films to ever grace the screen, "The Wizard of Oz" stands as a crowning achievement in 1930's film making. The special effects are highly impressive considering the limited technology available at the time, not to mention they are infinitely more endearing than most CGI effects present in today's films. The lavish sets, impeccable costume design, and glowing Technicolor help to create a convincing and enchanting Land of Oz. And though obviously filmed on a soundstage, the sets never seem confining; thanks largely in part to the meticulous backdrop paintings used to add depth to the foreground. The musical numbers are quite lively & catchy -- never slowing the pace of the film -- except perhaps for the Lion singing "King of the Jungle". Judy Garland truly shines in her portrayal of Dorothy, perfectly capturing the wide-eyed innocence of her character. She definitely deserved the special Oscar she was awarded for her performance. Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch of the West, Ray Bolger as the Scarecrow, and Frank Morgan as the Wizard also turn in praiseworthy characterizations. Definitely timeless in every sense of the word, this film is recommended to those of all ages – a 10/10!

This is an amazing movie! The story is beautiful written and the actors do an outstanding job of bring the story to life. A Must See Family Film!

This is an all-time classic and is probably the most viewed movie in the history of movies. The colors are very vibrant and the beauty of Oz really shines with this DVD. I highly recommend getting a copy for your DVD Library. No matter how many times I have seen it, I still enjoy watching it again and again.

My four year old watched it with me (her first time) and she too marveled at the colors and the beauty of Oz and was very fascinated with "the horse of a different color".

The 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz is almost here and technology has improved, yet The Wizard of Oz remains a timeless classic that is likely to entertain everyone for at least another 70 years to come.

We bought this to sit down and watch with our 4 year old and rediscovered its magic ourselves. We are so happy that it was available and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to spend time with their family. A MUST have! Our daughter now wants to be Dorothy for Halloween!

What's not to like? A classic movie and even after seeing it 100 or more times it is just as fun to watch. Try watching it while listening to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon...it's a whole new experience.

I Bought This Movie Because I Love it!! It is a True Classic for All Ages. My Son Who is 7 and My Daughter Who is 3 (Which Are Now 9 Years Old and 5 Years Old)Finally Got to Watch It and Adore it!! My Favorite Part is Toto The Very Cute Dog!! There is Nothing That I Dislike. They Did an Excellant Restoration Job On This Remastered DVD and I Highly Recommend to All. I Love The Colors and How Cheerful it All is!!

I wanted to buy the DVD of The Wizard of Oz because it is one of my all-time favorite movies. This DVD set had the interviews and other views of the making of the movie. Also, my original DVD of the movie had been broken; someone dropped it. When I was in the 5th grade, I started reading the original book by Baum. Then I read every book the school library and the county library had about Oz by Baum. So, when the movie became available on tape and then on DVD, I bought them. I watched the movie everytime it was shown on tv, also.

I decided to buy this movie for my mom because she loves it. She became disabled when this edition of the movie came out and was never able to get it. I tried looking for it in the stores and no one carried it anymore. I was very happy to see that it was for sale on ebay. The only thing I disliked about it was the price. I thought it was kind of pricey, but seeing the smile on my moms face Christmas morning when she opened it was well worth it and for that I am grateful for ebay. Thanks for everything!

I decided to buy The Wizard of Oz because my 3 yr. old daughter saw it at daycare and loved it. She was constantly telling me how mean Miss Gulch was. I found it on EBAY! after looking for it in every store in town. I never was much of an OZ fan. However, after buying it and watching the whole movie with my daughter, I have grown to appreciate the lessons in it. My daughter seems to understand how the Kansas characters relate to the Oz characters. I recommend this movie for watching with your children. Although, recently, one of the parents at my child's daycare complained about them showing it, they can no longer watch it at her daycare. Really a shame.

Brought me back to my childhood and what a delight to watch w/ my grandchildren.
They enjoyed it throughly and i am sure they will watch it again and again.

I bought this DVD to relive my childhood "video" experience with my children.

They loved it. I have never seen them sit, mouth agape, for a WHOLE movie in my life!! This is one timeless treasure to be shared between generations over and over again!

Glad to see they put it on DVD. Now you can hear this classic in Dolby souround sound. Picture is crisp and you can see things like the cords that hold up the lions tail and the flying monkeys. This is a great expirience if you have not seen it on DVD.

I bought this movie because it is my favorite movie.I've watched it what seems to be a thousand times and never get sick of the magical film making that this film provides.it is a movie for all ages and one my children should grow up with.

Wizard of Oz is a classic. My daughter saw it once on t.v. and asked about it ever sense. Its a great movie.

Everything in life relates somehow to this movie. If I only had a brain. You could have gone home anytime you wanted. Run, Toto, run! I'm gonna get you, my pretty! Poppies, poppies will put them to sleep. Well, I don't know about the poppies part, but this is a very good movie. Made the same year as Gone with the wind and Stagecoach. 1939 was a good year for movies.
