Without Limits (DVD, 1999)

This is an awesome movie. Totally inspirational, if you watch this you will feel like running even if you don't run. I didn't know anything about Steve Prefontaine before I first watched this. A good movie if your a runner or never did anything athletic in your life.

Without question...Without Limits is the better of the two most recent movies about the American runner from Coos Bay, then University of Oregon runner Steve Prefontaine. The other movie in question is "Prefontaine". Both movies have merit, but for those of us born and raised in Oregon, and who know the people involved in the making of the movie, there is no question. Without Limits did things right, they contacted the people that actually ran with Pre. Kenny Moore, Steve Bence and even had feedback from Bowerman himself. This movie was directed by Tom Cruise and Warner Brothers. It is a good movie, very realistic, and shot in most of the same places where Pre actually ran. If it's my money, I would buy Without Limits. You won't be dissapointed.

It's a tribute to Steve Prefontaine's enduring cult status among distance runners that several films exist chronicling Pre's short life. is a sympathetic, but honest biography of this amazing runner and the glory days of Bowerman and the Men of Oregon. I imagine that thousands of Cross-Country runners have watched this movie the night before a meet, and gone on to set their own PR's. For Cross Country fans, this movie ranks up there with the book, "Running With Buffalos."

I have watched it at least 30 times. I was a runner in high school and I am a fan of the attitude that Prefontaine had. If he did not run his hardest than it was crap, he was a front runner there have been very few successful front runners. I also love the question Prefontaine asks Bowerman, if he believes in the same things his wife believes in. and Bowerman answers I have no clue what she believes in I just Believe in her. you don't have to be a track fan to love this movie. there is another movie called Prefontaine that one sucks in comparison.

A good movie about one of America's best distance runners. See Prefontaine's life in college and short but great running career. His great 1972 Olympic race.

its about pre how can you not like it?
they have parts that do not coincide with the other prefontaine movies, so it leaves you wondering which one was ture.

Great portrayal of like of Pre and Bowerman. Well done with Billy Crudup and Donald Sutherland ~ much better than the "Pre" movie. Absolutely riveting ~ inspired my daughter to put on her spikes and run!

It's good to learn from the true story. Very inspiring DVD. Learned a lot of technical stuff from this movie. Keeps me running every morning. Not a hollywood-styled technical production type, but very touching. Can watch this one often without boring. Recommend.

Great movie!

I purchased this DVD for my son, who is a distance runner. His idol is Steve Prefontaine, whom this movie is about. He had watched it before,and wanted to own it.

I bought it for my daughter and her boyfriend who wanted it. The are both runners. I watched it before I sent it on to them. It was very good. I know I will borrow it again sometime.

The price was great. It did take sometime before I received my item, but the seller was responsive to emails.

I liked this movie because it is a true story about the Champion Runner Steve Prefontaine,The ending is very sad,but a great movie.The cast is excellent-Billy Crudup resembling the real life Prefontaine,and Donald Southerland playing his coach & mentor Bill Bowerman.This movie is a real winner.

You don't need to be a runner, you don't need to be athletic, you don't need to be a fan or even have to know who Pre is to love this film. Inspiring to say the least.

If you like running and do Track. You will love this movie. It will inspire you when you first see it. This movie tells the story of the famous Steve Prefontaine. A long distance runner that changed people minds about the 3 mile/5k races.

I loved this film and I cannot understand why it didn't get wider play and acclaim at the box office. Admittedly, I am a runner, but I think this film would appeal to all audiences. It is an amazingly faithful portrayal of America's greatest runner, Steve Prefontaine, who was also a fascinating human being. Some may be turned off by his cockiness at the beginning, but as he gets knocked down personally and on the track, you learn there is more to Pre than just his cockiness. Furthermore, you learn that there is a respectability about his cockiness ... a strength and belief in a duty to himself to give every ounce of strength and determination in every race. This is what Prefontain is all about. Donald Sutherland's portrayal of Bowerman, Pre's coach, is memorable also.

I still can't believe Pre died at such a young age. What a runner, what a human being, and what a movie!

This is a great movie for anyone that has a passion for running and the story of Steve Prefontaine. I ran track during the 70's in the heyday of track and field in the United States and Without Limits hits the feeling of what we all experienced during that time period. The story itself is great and the acting was good too. It is a sad story of one of the greatest track athletes to ever grace us, but it is also uplifting to think remember that he was a very strong soul that did what he wanted to at his own cost. Great Movie!!!

i dicided to buy this movie because i love the story of Steve Prefontaine. If you are a distance runner you will love this movie. i even have 2 friends that hate running and they asked to watch the movie a second time. Its more than a movie about running it is also about a mans life and about him overcoming obstacles in his life.
