Album Notes This holiday album defies expectations on a number of fronts. For one thing, it's not just Frank's show with a few token bones thrown to his offspring Tina, Nancy, and Frank Jr. It's more or less a genuinely democratic family effort, with everybody receiving their fair share of spotlight time. For another, despite what one might expect from a Sinatra Christmas album, this is decidedly not a swing effort. Though the orchestrations of Nelson Riddle and the arrangements of Don Costa are present, producer Sonny Burke (and presumably, Frank himself) resisted the temptation to jazz things up. Instead, most of the tunes here are given a fairly traditional treatment. When the sound is updated, things tilt more toward the mid-'60s pop sound than anything else. Also somewhat surprising is the fact that there are tunes by Chip Taylor (of "Wild Thing" fame) and Jimmy Webb tossed in among such yuletide standards as "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town."
