Synopsis
In this comic and philosophical novel, a motley assortment of Argentinians has won a lottery granting them an all-expenses paid voyage on a cruise ship. Even as they prepare to board, there is a mingled sense of luck and foreboding about the unknown destination of the trip. When the crew announces the outbreak of an epidemic and relegates the "winners" to a corner of the ship, some passengers complacently accept the strange ambiguities of the journey, while others are increasingly driven to penetrate the nature of what might be a surreal practical joke or an incitement to mutinous violence.
