Excellent tribute to the Last "Toggle Link" Winchester
This is a great piece on the last of the "toggle link action" Winchesters. The Model 1876 was Oliver Winchester's first entry into the more powerful black powder center fire cartridge arena. The .45-70 cartridge had been in existence since 1872, in use by the U.S. Army, in its Trapdoor Springfields. Unfortunately the toggle link action could not handle the powerful .45-70 cartridge. Winchester created the .45-75 cartridge for the Model 1876, and later added the .50-95, .45-60 and .40-60 cartridges to complete the Model 1876 caliber offerings. The book contains many great photographs and illustrations along with interesting historical notes. Herbert Houze's book is a must for the Winchester Collector.
