I got this book for my son, then read some of it and realized it was a treasure for me as well. It's a must read for anyone who cares about improving relationships with others. It has clearly explained points, with interesting stories as illustrations. It makes sense and is easy to understand. It really helps one see how simple ideas can bring about positive change and benefit in human relationships.

How to Win Friends & Influence People
Review created: 11/06/06

I just finished reading the book a few minutes ago. I think that the book provides the reader with a lot of useful information. The book was recommended to me by my mentor at Kent State University. She told me that she remembers that her father had the book. When her son graduated from college and was moving away she gave him a copy. Now somehow the book has fallen into her hands and she just began reading it when she recommended it to me. The books original copyright date was 1936 and for some reason it just keeps re-appearing. I began talking to some family members and both my grandma and one of my uncles have the book. My uncle was very shy and the book helped him to break out of his shell. I hope the book will work wonders for me also since I have the same problem. It will take time however. I had to read the book for a goal that I was setting so I had to read it pretty quickly. I highlighted many key principles throughout it. My plan is to go back and re-read the book at my own pace and try to master some of the principles. I think it is a book that everyone should read no matter your major/occupation. It really gets you to start thinking about others first. You may even find that you already do some of the principles or have started to do them because you do get a better reaction prior to reading the book. Its a book that is hard to put down or get bored with. I am now interested in reading the authors other books and finding out if they still offer seminars since he is now deceased. A lot of the book is real life people talking about their own obstacles when dealing with people and what they did to make the situation the best they possibly could for both parties involved. Some of the people have been long deceased while others are more recent to the authors time period. I do not have any negative comments about this book other than I wish there was no ending but we all know that nothing lasts forever. I think this book makes a good gift especially for avid readers. Everyone can relate to the ideas in the book. I highly enjoyed it and will continue to re-read it in order to master the principles better. I hope that you will enjoy the book also.

  Excellent Book
Review created: 11/02/06

This is an excellent book that I first read over 25 years ago when I was about 20 years old. It was given to me by a successful business man and neighbor that I admired. I would say that, at the time, it was life-changing. I have read it many times since, and each time I buy a copy and read it, I try to pass it on to another person. If you want to be appreciated, respected, liked, etc. by others (family, business associates, strangers, etc.) this book explains the formula. It is simple, and yet profound. On target observations of human nature.
