By the late '80s, rock music's landscape was beginning to change. Radio and MTV appeared to be focused on two kinds of rock music--polished pop-rock (Bon Jovi, Def Leppard) or raw hard rock (Guns N' Roses, Metallica). And although Loverboy helped popularize the former genre, it seemed as if the spotlight had shifted to their younger offspring.
Regardless, the group issued WILDSIDE in 1987, and while it spawned a hit single and a popular video with the rocker "Notorious" and attained gold status, it wasn't as strong or inspired as their earlier albums. Sensing this, the band quietly broke up two years later, after issuing the best-of collection BIG ONES.
