Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak (1988, Hardcover, Anniversary)

As a child, I loved fantasizing that I was going to the land of the wild things, where I could be in charge and boss some really ugly monsters around! As a result, I named my son Max after the book. My students love hearing the story of where his name came from, and I've enjoyed decorating his nursery to boot.

While this story can be a little scary for really young children, kids a little older will enjoy the detailed illustrations and theme. Here is a kid who gets sent to his room without any supper...and has an adventure instead!

This is Sendak's best, I think, and the theme is universal. Parents just don't understand, and kids always win!!!

The story begins with the lines, "The night Max wore his wolf suit and made mischief of one kind or another, his mother called him 'Wild Thing'. . ." What parent hasn't lived an evening like this. This story helps parents and children relate when both are having nights filled with mischief and wild things. But there is hope that in the long run, heart and home call one home to what matters most - Love and dinner. Enjoy this story with your own Wild Thing and remember that everyone has wild nights full of mischief. This too, is a wonderful book to initiate interesting conversations with your kids. My 19 year old took his copy of "Where the Wild Things Are" along with him when he left home for college. He even wears a "Where the Wild Things Are" t-shirt. It reminds him of being read to as a child. I suppose it's a warm fuzzy memory of times curled up with momat bedtime. I guess you could use this book too, to make a memory with your child.

This book was my most favorite book growing up. I used to check it out from the library every chance I could. I bout it for my girls when they were small, and now I am buing it for my great niece. I hope she loves it just as much as I did.

Book arrived timely and in great condition. Illustration and language easy to understand for a 5 year old.

I love this book because it is one that I have read to many of my classrooms. I probably own three or more copies, however they are packed away and I needed a copy quicker than I could find one. Bought used but item was like brand new...very happy with purchase...it is a classic children's story and my little daughter lovers it...I would recommend it to any parent and am looking forward to seeing the movie

Excellent book for younger children. Helps them understand the term of monsters. I bought for my six year old nephew. This book is a timeless classic. Anyone reading will enjoy. Would recomment this book for all who enjoy to read to or with their children.

A Classic children's book. I can remember loving this book when I was a kid. The animated pages are wonderful. I'm hoping that the film that's coming out next month (October 2009), is as enthralling.

This was a favorite of my kids, now they are grown, and I thought why not have a a hardcopy that isn't so well worn as the old one I have ready for the eventual grandbabies!!! We read it almost every night.

whaen I was a child in the early 70's, I used to go to the library and sit for hours reading this simple little book.. the pictures, the story; literally woke my imagination.. I'd dream about my own room turning into a jungle, and how it would be.. I always wanted a copy as a child, but coming from a 'poor' family, it too was a dream.. however; thrity years later,things have changed- I saw the listing for the book- one picture from the book took me back to all those years.. I could see all the picture vividly in my mind; brought back all the childhood joy! Now, having a small daughter of my own & roughly the same age as what I was then, I very much wanted a copy of this book for her. Great investment.. the impact that the book had on me is exactly the same as what it has on my daughter! Can't go wrong- this book is a true classic!
