Album Notes Personnel: Graham Nash (vocals, guitar, harmonica, piano); David Crosby, Joni Mitchell (vocals); Ben Keith (guitar, pedal steel guitar, dobro); David Lindley (guitar, mandolin); Harry Halex (guitar, piano); Dave Mason, Joel Bernstein (guitar); Joe Yankee (piano); Tim Drummond (bass); Johnny Barbata (drums). Recorded at Rudy Records, San Francisco, California. Only Graham Nash's second solo album--he never recorded as many solo projects as his CSN&Y cohorts, instead preferring to work in duos and trios, most often with buddy David Crosby--1973's WILD TALES is nearly as strong as its predecessor, 1971's SONGS FOR BEGINNERS. Nash has the strongest pop instincts of any member of CSN&Y--he was the original lead singer for '60s pop gods the Hollies, after all--and like his debut, WILD TALES is a smartly-produced collection of catchy, low-key pop songs. The overall vibe of WILD TALES slots in nicely with the growing California-rock ethos of the mid-70s; think Linda Ronstadt, the Eagles and Buckingham Nicks-era Fleetwood Mac. "And So it Goes" and "Another Sleep Song" are lovely minor-key ballads, but the true standout is the brilliant "Oh Camille (The Winter Soldier)," one of Nash's finest ever tunes.
