This 1990 film by Zalman King, starring Mickey Rourke and Carre Otis, is a bit problematic. Famous for its "blue" elements, including nudity and a strong focus on sexuality and sexual situations, it is actually a movie with a story, some of the most beautiful scenery you'll see in any film, and an uneven set of acting performances. This was Carre Otis's first film and she is somewhat tentative and uncertain in her performance. Mickey Rourke is quietly creepy as the mysterious "Wheeler". The strongest performance by the main cast is from Jacqueline Bisset as the jaded and worldy wise (if reckless) Claudia. The real star of the film seems to be Rio de Janeiro, from the first breathtaking shots of the enormous Cristo Redentor statue above the city and the staggeringly beautiful aerial shots of the harbor below to the views of the beaches, hotels, streets, and festivals. The philosophy is sometimes absurd in this film, but as a sensory trip / travelogue it is worth a look.
