If you're looking for something that's a little outside the norm for games, then you're looking at the right game. Wild Earth: African Safari is both entertaining and relaxing. And be careful, you might also learn something!

The game has 11 missions that cross a wide variety of African terrain while you are taking photographs and observing the little stories that take place naturally in wildlife. The best part is that most of the missions feel really unique on their own.
I love the mission where you're looking for warthogs and cheetahs while storm clouds are brewing overhead. It just really captures how huge the Serengeti is. Of course, the Jeep missions are always fun, especially in Co-op mode.

Even after you go through the missions, I still go back and play them to get better photographs for the articles that the game saves for you. You don't get extra points or anything; you just get to act like a real photographer and take some photos that actually look really cool. The game lets you take photos just for fun and save them too.

On top of all that, a new Safari Arcade Game unlocks after every mission. I know what you're thinking, "Yeah yeah, crappy mini-games on the Wii. What game doesn't have that?" Sure, while it's pretty cliche' to have mini-games on the Wii, some of the mini-games are really fun.
It's the kind of thing that you can leave on at a party, and people will gather around trying to beat each others' high scores.

Some of them are really unique too, like "Vulture Pilot" where you get to fly a vulture through hoops in the sky. You actually get to flap the vulture's wings using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, tilting the controllers to turn or dive or pull up.

Maybe this game isn't for everybody, especially the ones who like to blow everything away with a shotgun. But if you have an open mind about games and are looking for a fun and unique experience, I strongly recommend adding Wild Earth: African Safari to your library.

The game is very informative about different animal behaviors. The gameplay is simple, you as a photographer need to take pictures of wild animal behavior in Africa. It is easy and quick to learn the controls. Objectives in the game vary, thus providing a mixture of learning about both animals and the plantlife that is native to Africa. Because of it's simple gameplay the game is relatively easy to finish within a few hours. However, if you enjoy animals and observing realistic behavior, as well as seeing real places in Africa, I would definitely recommend this game.

This game has been an incredible purchase for my son. He is 8 years old and was awarded top of the class & placed 2nd in the school's spelling bee. He loves animals and this game has given him the opportunity to explore & "capture" the wild. Congrats to the creator.

This game is SO realistic! The sounds you hear, the way the animals move, even the wrinkles on the elephants....everything is so neat! The photography missions are pretty specific I think, so you better pay close attention to the details around you. And make sure you respect the animals' space, because most of the ones I've encountered will tolerate you....at a distance.

Purchased this game thinking that it a "shooting game". Purchased separately a gun attachment as Christmas gifts. My kids initial reaction was confusion when they realized that they were shooting pictures of an African Safari. Really had a good laugh at my expense, which together with the game added to a laugh filled fun evening. All in all, we enjoyed this game.

  wild earth" afrocam safari WII
Review created: 09/11/09

i thought this may be boring for my 7 and 9 year old since you simply have a group of photos you must take in an allotted time. you have to search for them in the african plains. some of the species are unfamiliar names. the kids love this. they will sit and laugh at the names and run from the elephants if they get to close, zoom in on the "smelly" ones they are warned about. amazing to me, my kids love the star wars and action packed novelty games usually. i am impressed with this one and would recommend it to adults and kids.

  Fun Game for the Family
Review created: 07/20/09

I bought this game because my tween daughter thinks she would like to be a photo journalist one day. We have enjoyed it so far. Not a lot of action. My son thinks it is kind of slow. My daughter the photographer seems to like it.

  Very good game
Review created: 05/08/09

This is a very unique game. It is a fun game for a family to play together in the cooperitive mode. The rating is slighlty misleading a young child would not be able to play this by themself. It would be too hard for them.

  African Safari (Wii)
Review created: 04/05/09

A little hard for the kids to control. Took a lot of practice for them to be able to advance through game.

The game is great for learning facts about the animals found in the african safari. This game was also a great way for our family to take a trip somewhere without leaving our own living room. You must walk and drive through the safari to find specific animals and plants. It was a great adventure after the kids figured out the controls.

Love that my 3 year old enjoys watching the game.
Hate that it is too difficult for him to play but way too easy for adults. Once you have completed all levels really no need to play anymore.

Price was great and product was shipped fast - however the case was shattered when I received it. Had to use an old cast from an x-box game.

Grapics and sound effects are good. The game does have to upgrade the software on your game unit to run. This can cause a little anxiety when the promts come up. Game play ig good overall.

I like the animals, but man-oh-man it is borrrrring.
It is a shame, because the concept is really inviting. I do like the scenery and to be able walk around. The camera views are interesting and you can pretend to sneak around. But it took forever to get everything on the list. No map as to which way to go. And the plant material was way over my children’s head. I am a horticulturist so I knew what the names meant. Maybe if you get into the game farther it will pan out, but the kids are done with it.
