Puzzle Safari books are sturdy, casebound board books. The right-hand page of each spread is a 12-piece jigsaw puzzle, fitted snugly into a tray, and featuring a bright color photograph of a wild animal. On the left-hand page is a smaller version of the photo (for reference when putting the puzzle together), intriguing information about the animal, and the beginning of a riddle. The answer to the riddle and some more fun facts are printed on the puzzle tray, which is revealed when a child pops the pieces out to do the puzzle. The final spread of the book acts as an animal recap with questions that reinforce the information learned.
