Wii Sports Resort (Wii, 2009)

Upon my initial skydive into Wii Sports Resort, I expected the game wouldn't wow me much. I'd seen it during various stages of its life and played it many times. Now that I had the final product, I expected it would hold little in the way of surprise.

But as I started unlocking games and playing more, I found myself losing track of time. Many of us know that a great game can just suck you in and you can easily lose hours mining it for all of its glorious, fun riches. Wii Sports Resort was no different for me.

Wii Sports Resort trumps its predecessor by adding a staggering amount of new mini-games, most of which have sub-categories. For example, the Swordplay sport features the dueling we've all seen a million times, as well as the weird cut-things-in-half mini-game that we've seen a bit less of, but there's also a third game where I had to battle through waves of opponents until reaching an end boss. It's this kind of variety that kept me coming back and kept things fresh.

It's not all new stuff, though. Golf and bowling return, though I couldn't really tell the difference between the versions found in Resort and the original. I still bowled the same as I ever did and I was just as bad in golf here as I was in the original Wii Sports. So MotionPlus didn't drastically change anything with these two for me.


MotionPlus does play a big part in Resort, however. As one would expect, the majority of games here wouldn't be possible without the little dongle and I was downright surprised at how accurately it measured my movement in some sports. Table Tennis is the best example of this, as my real-life skills translated into the game pretty well. I could put massive spin on the ball, hit lob shots and had no problem translating my real-life actions into what I wanted in-game.

While I did have a lot of fun with it by myself, these sports are designed to be competitive, so throwing down with some friends provided me the greatest joy. And unlike the original game, we weren't confined to playing only a handful of sports, which made for longer, more fulfilling play sessions.

Wii Sports Resort deserves to be in every Wii owner's library, whether you're a hardcore gamer or someone who only occasionally picks up the Wiimote and Nunchuk. It has every sport unlocked out of the box, but for those that want to spend the time, there are plenty of variations to unlock in the long run. Some of the games are tiring (looking at you, Canoeing!), but overall Wuhu Island has plenty to enjoy and is a necessary destination for anyone that enjoyed Wii Sports.

The motion plus adapter makes a noticeable difference, and many of the games allow in game calibration. For example, in the sword fighting game, simply centering your sword and pressing down on the d pad, re centers the remote. And handy feature to have.
The games included are swordplay, wakeboarding, frisbee, archery, basketball, table tennis, golf, bowling, power cruising, canoeing, cycling, and air sports.
Although some like cycling seem like your just swinging your arms around for an extended time, several of the games are quite fun and interesting, my personal favorite is the swordplay.

For those familure with the previous wii sport, you'll find the golf and bowling to be a new challenge, but a bit less finiky then the previous version.

My recomendations for this game, is if your going to buy it, be sure to pick up an extra wii motion plus, as the games are much better in two players.

Wii Sports Resort is a really good follow-up to the game that started Nintendo’s industry shift. It’s absolutely a better design than the original pack-in with a much larger stack of sports-inspired Wii games. Not every game is a winner, however, and a few games that hold promise don’t quite meet their potential.

At the very least it’s a wonderful demonstration of the capabilities of the Wii Motion Plus peripheral, and shows just how much it changes Wii motion sensing for the better. The device is incredibly accurate and Wii Sports Resort shows this extremely well in several games that are really fun – if just slightly shallow – sports-based diversions.

I love this game , from the first time i saw the commercial i wanted this game . Now that i have it my wife and her freinds end up using and enjoying it more then i cause i work so much . But when i get a chance its hard to get me off this game . I really bought it just for the archery but there is so much more to this game then just that , its got so many games on it that i havent even played half the games yet but if anyone reads this review and has friends that like to get together after work this game is perfect

I absolutely loved the original Wii Sports. So when I heard they were coming out with a sequel, I got really excited. After playing for a while I can say that I wasn't disappointed. It keeps golf and bowling from the original Wii Sports and adds 10 other beach oriented activities. My personal favorite is Wakeboarding. You can pull off nasty tricks and get BIG air. My other favorite events are the air sports, power cruising, basketball, archery, and table tennis.

I also like the addition of the wii motion plus accessory. It makes your movements more precise and it makes the overall game play more fun. If you haven't gotten wii sports resort yet, you got to go and get it. You'll be having fun on the beach all day.

realy like this item and love most of the games on it..very interactive this one is a lot better than the original games that came out inicially. Im looking forward to the new games also

Cons: Why should I buy extra MotionPlus device for each controller to play Resort?
Pros: It got more realistic games. I liked Pingpong and Arcery.

really enjoyed all the different games & different levels of each game. really brings the family together for some good clean fun.

it is a great game. graphics are excellent,and the wii motion plus is a great touch. the games make you move more than just your hands for the best resilts and adults will love it more than kids if you are a retiree.It lets your get your exercise without leaving the house

Our 12 year old son loves the activities and is exercising alot! Lots of games and very entertaining.

we bought this for our daughter to go with the wii for xmas. it is a very addicting suite of games to play. especially like the bowling and golf. the motion plus controllers make quite a difference in the accuracy of the controller. it is a rather pricey game package, but, it is fun and has 12 games to play.

This item is an addendum to my grandchildren's Wii system. It was directly shipped to my grandchildren. I am certain that they will enjoy it.

continuing the tradition, WII Resort is a great group game. unfortunately, the game does not tell you that the Wii motionplus is required for most games...on each controller (player) that wants to participate. This was dissapointing on christmas night when we wanted to play but had to watch and take turns instead.

This was a Christmas gift for my daughter and her family. It is a great game. We have had more fun with it than I expected. The down side for my son-in-law is probably that we are there more often than we ever were and stay longer...just kidding. Sure he loves us being there.

Such a great game to play with lots of people. Very interactive for introducing people to the Wii and having an option when hosting people at your house.

I bought it because Newegg had ripped me off with a refurbished Wii console that didn't include Wii Sports. I later returned the console for a new one, so I now have Wii Sports. No comparison. What impressed me most is the enhanced motion detection; I now suck just as much at Wii golf and Wii bowling as I do at the real thing...

We rented this game before purchasing. Everyone in the family enjoyed playing and we all have our own favorites.

Great for New Years Resolution of exercising. We get to exercise while having fun and that can't be beat!

Would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys laughing until their sides ache, at least I did watching some of the movements that were made while others played.

Having this game with the motion control is more life-like than the regular games for WII that I have purchased. It contains the ability to use up to 4 players, you can play against the game or with others in your home. I hosts the following games: bowling, tennis, water skiing, basketball, golf, sword play (fencing), archery, ski diving, frisbee, power crusing (racing), canoeing, table tennis. It is more active movement and lots of single or family fun.

the game was extremely fun and the entire family enjoyed the game. However, the video scenes appears too child like. Wii could have made the characters look more like real atheletes or adults who you are competing with in the video.

The characters makes the game look like a childs game. Where Sony PS 3 makes their games look true to life.

This is a great product, I love it and so do the kids. Sky diving is my fav cause I can't do it for real anymore. Lots of fun for everyone but because of that it is difficult to play as often as I would like. Our Wii is usually occupied by someone else in the family. Next update will be more remotes for more players, up to 4 can play. I like all of the attachments, makes it easer to play with a little more reference points. If you like the original wii sports package you will love this one! Also has an auto setting for bowling, helps younger or older people play without difficulty. This is a great game if you are using your Wii for PT/OT/Rehab. Wii Resort ROCKS!

The new Motionplus controller really makes you concentrate. It's lots of fun trying to adapt your way of playing.
