Wii Sports Resort (Wii, 2009)

Upon my initial skydive into Wii Sports Resort, I expected the game wouldn't wow me much. I'd seen it during various stages of its life and played it many times. Now that I had the final product, I expected it would hold little in the way of surprise.

But as I started unlocking games and playing more, I found myself losing track of time. Many of us know that a great game can just suck you in and you can easily lose hours mining it for all of its glorious, fun riches. Wii Sports Resort was no different for me.

Wii Sports Resort trumps its predecessor by adding a staggering amount of new mini-games, most of which have sub-categories. For example, the Swordplay sport features the dueling we've all seen a million times, as well as the weird cut-things-in-half mini-game that we've seen a bit less of, but there's also a third game where I had to battle through waves of opponents until reaching an end boss. It's this kind of variety that kept me coming back and kept things fresh.

It's not all new stuff, though. Golf and bowling return, though I couldn't really tell the difference between the versions found in Resort and the original. I still bowled the same as I ever did and I was just as bad in golf here as I was in the original Wii Sports. So MotionPlus didn't drastically change anything with these two for me.


MotionPlus does play a big part in Resort, however. As one would expect, the majority of games here wouldn't be possible without the little dongle and I was downright surprised at how accurately it measured my movement in some sports. Table Tennis is the best example of this, as my real-life skills translated into the game pretty well. I could put massive spin on the ball, hit lob shots and had no problem translating my real-life actions into what I wanted in-game.

While I did have a lot of fun with it by myself, these sports are designed to be competitive, so throwing down with some friends provided me the greatest joy. And unlike the original game, we weren't confined to playing only a handful of sports, which made for longer, more fulfilling play sessions.

Wii Sports Resort deserves to be in every Wii owner's library, whether you're a hardcore gamer or someone who only occasionally picks up the Wiimote and Nunchuk. It has every sport unlocked out of the box, but for those that want to spend the time, there are plenty of variations to unlock in the long run. Some of the games are tiring (looking at you, Canoeing!), but overall Wuhu Island has plenty to enjoy and is a necessary destination for anyone that enjoyed Wii Sports.

Wii Sports Resort is a really good follow-up to the game that started Nintendo’s industry shift. It’s absolutely a better design than the original pack-in with a much larger stack of sports-inspired Wii games. Not every game is a winner, however, and a few games that hold promise don’t quite meet their potential.

At the very least it’s a wonderful demonstration of the capabilities of the Wii Motion Plus peripheral, and shows just how much it changes Wii motion sensing for the better. The device is incredibly accurate and Wii Sports Resort shows this extremely well in several games that are really fun – if just slightly shallow – sports-based diversions.

I love this game , from the first time i saw the commercial i wanted this game . Now that i have it my wife and her freinds end up using and enjoying it more then i cause i work so much . But when i get a chance its hard to get me off this game . I really bought it just for the archery but there is so much more to this game then just that , its got so many games on it that i havent even played half the games yet but if anyone reads this review and has friends that like to get together after work this game is perfect

realy like this item and love most of the games on it..very interactive this one is a lot better than the original games that came out inicially. Im looking forward to the new games also

Cons: Why should I buy extra MotionPlus device for each controller to play Resort?
Pros: It got more realistic games. I liked Pingpong and Arcery.

really enjoyed all the different games & different levels of each game. really brings the family together for some good clean fun.

Wii sport resort is an interesting game remenisent of its predisesor.
The motion plus adapter makes a noticeable difference, and many of the games allow in game calibration. For example, in the sword fighting game, simply centering your sword and pressing down on the d pad, re centers the remote. And handy feature to have.
The games included are swordplay, wakeboarding, frisbee, archery, basketball, table tennis, golf, bowling, power cruising, canoeing, cycling, and air sports.
Although some like cycling seem like your just swinging your arms around for an extended time, several of the games are quite fun and interesting, my personal favorite is the swordplay.

For those familure with the previous wii sport, you'll find the golf and bowling to be a new challenge, but a bit less finiky then the previous version.

My recomendations for this game, is if your going to buy it, be sure to pick up an extra wii motion plus, as the games are much better in two players.

it is a great game. graphics are excellent,and the wii motion plus is a great touch. the games make you move more than just your hands for the best resilts and adults will love it more than kids if you are a retiree.It lets your get your exercise without leaving the house

Wii Sports resort has that classic Nintendo feel with some unique twists that make it the perfect party game. From the moment you start the game, the new motion plus technology is front and center. Having you skydive your Mii onto the island is a great way to demonstrate the new Motion Plus features in the game.

As expected, not every one of the mini-games in the collection is going to be your cup of tea, but everyone should find a few that are fun enough to keep you coming back again and again. For the casual gamer looking for a quick fix, this is an ideal title.

Some of the games take better advantage of the controller than others. For instance the archery portion is particularly inspired. You can feel the creaking of the string as it pulls taught and the twang of the bow as you let your arrow fly. Outstanding!

The Jet Ski obstacle course is a lot of fun as well. The golfing module is quite an improvement from the original Sports version and is my next favorite module. I have Tiger Woods 10 which is fantastic, but sometimes you just want to fire up the Wii and smash a few drives.

The island concept is charming and there are some thoughtful touches, for example, there is an option in Sports Resort that automatically imports Mii's posted online to the Check Mii Out channel who can then wander into your game as spectators. It was quite fun to see Mii celebrity spoofs suddenly appear in the audience or towing you from the motorboat in the wakeboard game. What a cool concept!

Most of the events take place on different portions of the island, so the views are constantly changing and give you a real sense of place that helps the immersion factor and ties everything together nicely.

Overall I'd give this title a 9 of 10 and a good value for the money.

I remember as if it were yesterday when Pong, one of the first video games was released. I used o go with my friend CLR to the television and radio floor of Macy's to play for free. So, when I had the opportunity to visit that same friend this past summer, I was intrigued by the possibility of contemporary video games that meshed with my sensibilities: no fighting or bloodshed or criminal activities. Happily, Wii Sports Resort has taken some of the basic Wii technology that has grabbed the world and applied it to competitive activities that one might play at a resort: archery, jetski, and cycling are my favorites sofar. The graphics and sound effects are excellent, ditto the design of the contests. Of course, my Godson, CLRF's son, can beat both his mother and me at any of the Wii Sports Resort offerings with little effort, but we baby boomers still had uproaring, clean fun trying our best. Good exercise too, as one must make the real-world motions required to propel one's arrow or jetski or bicycle on the screen.

Since we bought the wii sport resort, we have played it faithfully. It's nice to be able to play a game with my husband and have fun.

The original Wii sports was the game I played most often on the Wii, solo or with friends. This isn't to say there aren't other good games for the Wii, I have quite a few, but it of all the games I have played Wii sports had the greatest re-play value. Wii sports resort is an upgrade on Wii sports in almost everyway. The new motion plus control adds an axis demension to the motion controller that is much more fine tuned than the orignal. It definately takes some practice to get use too, but adds a depth of skill to the playing of the sports. There is an actual challenge, a rewarding challenge I might add. Some of the original classic Wii sports games are there, revamped, better. Yet some of the new additions, such as sword play and archery, are already what I would call favorites. The only thing I can take away from this game is the positioning of the bar can be annoying at times, and really that is the Wii and not the game. With the added wii motion plus, however, the bar position plays a greater role. As far as I am concerned the best game series for the Wii, 10/10.

I Love this game! It is such a blast! I do agree the motion plus accessory is a bit of a pain, but all in all, this game ROCKS! Believe me you will get a workout with this game. No couch potatoes!

Wow, the hours upon hours of fun family and friends have had on SPorts Resort has been nothing but amazing. Add the motion plus onto regular remote and you are, sword fighting, canoeing, archery, bowling, basketball, table tennis,,,,the fun never ends. My hear-rate always increases when sword fighting,,so much fun. You have to get up off the couch to really 'get into it', which is easily done. As you play each game, you can unlock new games and speciality plays. Highly recommend "Sports Resort".

This is just a fun game for the whole family. Its got alot of different games so its a good value for the price. It keeps everyone entertained with all the different sports it offers. Im not into the flying but some of the other family members liked it. I got mine here on ebay and used bing so i also got cash back. It was a good choice.

This game is so cool, my Grandson just loves it and will not put the remote down. The new Wii MotionPlus gives you that extra "sense of control".

This product is wonderful and my grandsons love playing the Wii hour by hour and day by day. They do not tire of it as they do other games including DS games. I love the Wii in the fact anyone in the household can play and gets everyone up off the couch for a round of kart racing whether at the beach or in the snow. The Mario Kart was one of the games my grandsons had been wanting for some time. I searched ebay and found a good deal. Bought it and it arrived at my grandsons's door on the second day. They were estatic. We love the Wii Mario Kart game.
