Wii Sports Resort (Wii, 2009)

Upon my initial skydive into Wii Sports Resort, I expected the game wouldn't wow me much. I'd seen it during various stages of its life and played it many times. Now that I had the final product, I expected it would hold little in the way of surprise.

But as I started unlocking games and playing more, I found myself losing track of time. Many of us know that a great game can just suck you in and you can easily lose hours mining it for all of its glorious, fun riches. Wii Sports Resort was no different for me.

Wii Sports Resort trumps its predecessor by adding a staggering amount of new mini-games, most of which have sub-categories. For example, the Swordplay sport features the dueling we've all seen a million times, as well as the weird cut-things-in-half mini-game that we've seen a bit less of, but there's also a third game where I had to battle through waves of opponents until reaching an end boss. It's this kind of variety that kept me coming back and kept things fresh.

It's not all new stuff, though. Golf and bowling return, though I couldn't really tell the difference between the versions found in Resort and the original. I still bowled the same as I ever did and I was just as bad in golf here as I was in the original Wii Sports. So MotionPlus didn't drastically change anything with these two for me.


MotionPlus does play a big part in Resort, however. As one would expect, the majority of games here wouldn't be possible without the little dongle and I was downright surprised at how accurately it measured my movement in some sports. Table Tennis is the best example of this, as my real-life skills translated into the game pretty well. I could put massive spin on the ball, hit lob shots and had no problem translating my real-life actions into what I wanted in-game.

While I did have a lot of fun with it by myself, these sports are designed to be competitive, so throwing down with some friends provided me the greatest joy. And unlike the original game, we weren't confined to playing only a handful of sports, which made for longer, more fulfilling play sessions.

Wii Sports Resort deserves to be in every Wii owner's library, whether you're a hardcore gamer or someone who only occasionally picks up the Wiimote and Nunchuk. It has every sport unlocked out of the box, but for those that want to spend the time, there are plenty of variations to unlock in the long run. Some of the games are tiring (looking at you, Canoeing!), but overall Wuhu Island has plenty to enjoy and is a necessary destination for anyone that enjoyed Wii Sports.

Wii Sports Resort is a really good follow-up to the game that started Nintendo’s industry shift. It’s absolutely a better design than the original pack-in with a much larger stack of sports-inspired Wii games. Not every game is a winner, however, and a few games that hold promise don’t quite meet their potential.

At the very least it’s a wonderful demonstration of the capabilities of the Wii Motion Plus peripheral, and shows just how much it changes Wii motion sensing for the better. The device is incredibly accurate and Wii Sports Resort shows this extremely well in several games that are really fun – if just slightly shallow – sports-based diversions.

I love this game , from the first time i saw the commercial i wanted this game . Now that i have it my wife and her freinds end up using and enjoying it more then i cause i work so much . But when i get a chance its hard to get me off this game . I really bought it just for the archery but there is so much more to this game then just that , its got so many games on it that i havent even played half the games yet but if anyone reads this review and has friends that like to get together after work this game is perfect

Wii sport resort is an interesting game remenisent of its predisesor.
The motion plus adapter makes a noticeable difference, and many of the games allow in game calibration. For example, in the sword fighting game, simply centering your sword and pressing down on the d pad, re centers the remote. And handy feature to have.
The games included are swordplay, wakeboarding, frisbee, archery, basketball, table tennis, golf, bowling, power cruising, canoeing, cycling, and air sports.
Although some like cycling seem like your just swinging your arms around for an extended time, several of the games are quite fun and interesting, my personal favorite is the swordplay.

For those familure with the previous wii sport, you'll find the golf and bowling to be a new challenge, but a bit less finiky then the previous version.

My recomendations for this game, is if your going to buy it, be sure to pick up an extra wii motion plus, as the games are much better in two players.

realy like this item and love most of the games on it..very interactive this one is a lot better than the original games that came out inicially. Im looking forward to the new games also

Cons: Why should I buy extra MotionPlus device for each controller to play Resort?
Pros: It got more realistic games. I liked Pingpong and Arcery.

really enjoyed all the different games & different levels of each game. really brings the family together for some good clean fun.

it is a great game. graphics are excellent,and the wii motion plus is a great touch. the games make you move more than just your hands for the best resilts and adults will love it more than kids if you are a retiree.It lets your get your exercise without leaving the house

Great product! Big difference in interaction with the WII console! Gamer motions are more accurately replicated and reproduced on the game.

This is a terrific game. A good improvment on the Wii original Sports package... much more interactive. I bought it for my 12 year old grandson and he loves it!!!!

Product came unwrapped with spare wii motion plus. I decided to buy this for a friend for christmas and she will be very happy.

I first played the game at my local best buy store. About two hours later I finally stopped after losing a great match of ping pong. Needless to say, I would later purchase the game so I can get a rematch!

if you nevered played Wii and you get the chance to use this game once you get hooked fast

But Resort Takes All the Fun of Both Game And Adds A setting that like a real Vaction Spot
I Reomend after you buy a Wii get the Resort to topp off you basic fun package then move on to other games that are harder

This is a hard to play but like all those shooting game we remember as a child in arcade

I have not played it, I may never play it, I didn't but it for adults so in fairness to the game, I am reviewing this taking into account my kid's enthusiasm for playing it.
They seemed to like it... What I saw was them paddling a canoe and struggling with it but being ok with struggling. I think that's great for my kids to struggle at something and do it anyway. This show a desire to master something that's challenging and not giving up too easily just because one may not be great out of the box.
I give this game and Wii in general two thumbs up. I have played some of the Wii games and they are very , good. Well thought out, enjoyable, not too easy, not too hard.

this game is very interactive, the motion plus helped alot, lots of funfor the family! great gift for hollidays.

This was purchased for my grandchildren and I know this will give them hours of enjoyment as well as the big kids (my son and daughter-in-law).

AWESOME! I know it's not TOTALLY accurate 100% on the money action, but it sure is an excellent simulation, like you are there playing the game. You quickly don't notice that it's not 100% connection with balls, etc, as you really do have to act exactly like you are playing the game, so that it DOES matter how well you aim for stuff and all. LOVED IT. Played 1hr33min non stop the first time I opened it and can't wait to get back to it!

I am anxious to use this game. However, since I bought this for a Christmas gift for my sons, 8 and 10, I have not yet been able to observe or play it.

The value alone earns the excellect rating. To get the motionplus and a few extra things it is worth it (especially since this came to $33 for me). The sword fighting and the ping pong are the best of the sports. The others are a mixed bag from frisbee and the bowling upgrade being very good to bicycling and wakeboarding at the bottom. The golf is fine, but get Tiger Woods 2010 if you want a real golf game using the motionplus.
