Wii Sports Resort (Wii, 2009)

Upon my initial skydive into Wii Sports Resort, I expected the game wouldn't wow me much. I'd seen it during various stages of its life and played it many times. Now that I had the final product, I expected it would hold little in the way of surprise.

But as I started unlocking games and playing more, I found myself losing track of time. Many of us know that a great game can just suck you in and you can easily lose hours mining it for all of its glorious, fun riches. Wii Sports Resort was no different for me.

Wii Sports Resort trumps its predecessor by adding a staggering amount of new mini-games, most of which have sub-categories. For example, the Swordplay sport features the dueling we've all seen a million times, as well as the weird cut-things-in-half mini-game that we've seen a bit less of, but there's also a third game where I had to battle through waves of opponents until reaching an end boss. It's this kind of variety that kept me coming back and kept things fresh.

It's not all new stuff, though. Golf and bowling return, though I couldn't really tell the difference between the versions found in Resort and the original. I still bowled the same as I ever did and I was just as bad in golf here as I was in the original Wii Sports. So MotionPlus didn't drastically change anything with these two for me.


MotionPlus does play a big part in Resort, however. As one would expect, the majority of games here wouldn't be possible without the little dongle and I was downright surprised at how accurately it measured my movement in some sports. Table Tennis is the best example of this, as my real-life skills translated into the game pretty well. I could put massive spin on the ball, hit lob shots and had no problem translating my real-life actions into what I wanted in-game.

While I did have a lot of fun with it by myself, these sports are designed to be competitive, so throwing down with some friends provided me the greatest joy. And unlike the original game, we weren't confined to playing only a handful of sports, which made for longer, more fulfilling play sessions.

Wii Sports Resort deserves to be in every Wii owner's library, whether you're a hardcore gamer or someone who only occasionally picks up the Wiimote and Nunchuk. It has every sport unlocked out of the box, but for those that want to spend the time, there are plenty of variations to unlock in the long run. Some of the games are tiring (looking at you, Canoeing!), but overall Wuhu Island has plenty to enjoy and is a necessary destination for anyone that enjoyed Wii Sports.

Wii Sports Resort is a really good follow-up to the game that started Nintendo’s industry shift. It’s absolutely a better design than the original pack-in with a much larger stack of sports-inspired Wii games. Not every game is a winner, however, and a few games that hold promise don’t quite meet their potential.

At the very least it’s a wonderful demonstration of the capabilities of the Wii Motion Plus peripheral, and shows just how much it changes Wii motion sensing for the better. The device is incredibly accurate and Wii Sports Resort shows this extremely well in several games that are really fun – if just slightly shallow – sports-based diversions.

I love this game , from the first time i saw the commercial i wanted this game . Now that i have it my wife and her freinds end up using and enjoying it more then i cause i work so much . But when i get a chance its hard to get me off this game . I really bought it just for the archery but there is so much more to this game then just that , its got so many games on it that i havent even played half the games yet but if anyone reads this review and has friends that like to get together after work this game is perfect

Wii sport resort is an interesting game remenisent of its predisesor.
The motion plus adapter makes a noticeable difference, and many of the games allow in game calibration. For example, in the sword fighting game, simply centering your sword and pressing down on the d pad, re centers the remote. And handy feature to have.
The games included are swordplay, wakeboarding, frisbee, archery, basketball, table tennis, golf, bowling, power cruising, canoeing, cycling, and air sports.
Although some like cycling seem like your just swinging your arms around for an extended time, several of the games are quite fun and interesting, my personal favorite is the swordplay.

For those familure with the previous wii sport, you'll find the golf and bowling to be a new challenge, but a bit less finiky then the previous version.

My recomendations for this game, is if your going to buy it, be sure to pick up an extra wii motion plus, as the games are much better in two players.

realy like this item and love most of the games on it..very interactive this one is a lot better than the original games that came out inicially. Im looking forward to the new games also

Cons: Why should I buy extra MotionPlus device for each controller to play Resort?
Pros: It got more realistic games. I liked Pingpong and Arcery.

really enjoyed all the different games & different levels of each game. really brings the family together for some good clean fun.

it is a great game. graphics are excellent,and the wii motion plus is a great touch. the games make you move more than just your hands for the best resilts and adults will love it more than kids if you are a retiree.It lets your get your exercise without leaving the house

The WII sports resort was everything I hoped it would be. The Grandkids love it and play with it constantly. The shipping was fast and so was the delivery.

Great for the whole family. There's a least one game each family member will like. I can't really say there was any thing I didn't like.

This looked like a fun game to play for the family and it is everything that I expected and more. There are 12 different games included on this disc so there is something for everyone to play. If your looking for a Wii game the hole family will enjoy this is a must have. Be ready to get a work out if you play all the games in one day, it is a fun way to get your exercise and not even think about it. I would recommend this game only for those that want to have fun!!

This game is great fun for the whole family. This game is very comparible to the Wii Sport game with a lot more varity. This game is a blast for one person or the entire family to play together.

I bought this wii resort for a Christmas gift and had priced it in stores and so I know I got a good price and everything about it was the same including being new.

I saw the tv ads for this game and I knew I had to have it..the only drawback it is hard to get use to. When you played the original Wii Sports its fun and easy to understand, this new one takes time to get used to.
Learning to bowl again is frustrating. But like anything new, practice makes perfect.
The motion plus' is different, Nintendo should make all their games with the motion plus, so you wouldn't have to switch from one controller to another everytime you want to play a game. I have at least 20 wii games that doesn't use the motion plus..but it is an asset to the new Sports Resort game.
The game itself is pricy with the 2 motion plus..Sams Club has them separate for $19.00 each give or take a few cents. The game alone is about $29.99, game
and 1 motion plus is $49.00 and 2 motion plus is 54.00 Get on ebay and look for a deal, you pay anywheres from $29 to 89.00.

Lots of fun games for kids and adults, the motion plus makes it more realistic, I like the wake boarding the best since I am too old to try because I will probably hurt myself, highly recommended game
