Movie Description
The familiar theme of secretary-wife rivalry gets a new twist in this popular, star-studded MGM romantic comedy directed by the extraordinary Clarence Brown. Clark Gable stars as Van Stanhope, a hardworking magazine publisher who is happily married to Linda (Myrna Loy). Jean Harlow stars as Helen "Whitey" Wilson, Van's secretary and right-hand gal who, despite her love for her employer, respects the sanctity of his happy marriage. Linda cannot stop her misguided suspicions that Whitey is more than a secretary for her husband, fueled by her meddling mother's (May Robson) constant suggestions. When Van goes on an important business trip to Havana and takes Whitey instead of Linda, Linda is infuriated, leading to a series of complications and misunderstandings that leaves Linda believing that she has been right all along. Ultimately, it is up to Whitey to convince Linda that she is in danger of losing an incredibly faithful husband in this love triangle with a twist. Jimmy Stewart costars as Whitey's boyfriend, who is eager to marry the loyal secretary. WIFE VS. SECRETARY is a witty and entertaining romp featuring some of Hollywood's brightest stars.

    This was not Gable's best movie or even Myrna Loy's or James Stewart's but when you throw in Jean Harlow, then it's worth a watch! Gable plays a magazine publisher who hires the gorgeous Harlow as his secretary, but the catch is that Gable is married to Loy...very happily! Well, Gable's mother becomes suspicious of why her son hired Harlow in the first place and puts a bug into Loy's ear that she needs to get to the bottom of this whole thing. Gable is the perfect gentlemen and Harlow the devoted, invaluable secretary....but then throw in James Stewart who thinks he may have a chance with Loy....it's a screw ball comedy where everyone gets the wrong idea and it all gets taken care of in the end.....because that's Hollywood!
