As this 1994 film begins, Mrs. Edwina Broome (Natasha Richardson) has just moved to Kilshannon, a small Irish town, into a neighborhood called "Widows' Peak." This community got it's name because many of its residents are upscale widows. Curiosity about the sensuous newcomer consumes the neighbors' interest; however, she's a very private person who doesn't allow much information about herself to leak.
The most dominant, over-bearing, sinister, matriarchal widow, Mrs. Doyle-Counihan (Joan Plowright), is frustrated to no end because she can't find out much about Edwina, even though her son, Godfrey Doyle-Counihan (Adrian Dunbar), is already courting the highly seductive new neighbor, who's an apparent heiress his mother would be delighted for him to marry.
But, when Edwina & Miss Katherine O'Hare (Mia Farrow) develop an instant rivalry, a mortal feud between them ensues. Shortly thereafter, what seem like coincidental events start to appear as if Edwina's attempting to manipulate & destroy Katherine. Widows' Peak's about to become confounded by an unsolved murder. Trying to figure out both the mysterious heiress & the unsolved murder make for a suspense-building, intensity-flinging, amusing mystery.
The cast is stellar & really deliver delightful performances. Watch this one to see how a menagery of great actors work so complimentingly well together~
