The Wicker Man (DVD, 2006, Single Disc Theatrical Version)

This is the original Wicker Man movie and I was so excited to see it, but once I started watching it I realized it was not what I thought it was going to be. I was all cuddled up in front of the tv waiting to be scared out of my wits with suspense and thrills, but that didn't happen. I can see how it would have a cult following, which it does. I can also see how it was probably quite groundbreaking when it was first released in the early 70's, but unfortunately, I don't think it has held up to time like other classics.

This is one of those films that you'll probably always remember. The acting isn't that great nor is the story but there's a "something" about it. Edward & Brit absolutely make it happen! This particular release of this older film is from 2006 and is on a North American DVD format. Brit's private nude dance scene in the room next to Edwards is one that's been talked about for years. Edward's police character is so intense (in a hidden way) that you'll never forget this role. However, the subject matter (the "wicker man") is probably what captivates most viewers. The nameless extras are also fascinating because they really bring this story to life.

Still entertaining after all these years and probably now considered an international cult classic.

One of my favorites. Wryly funny at times, completely engrossing, and ultimately, delightfully gruesome. Have you ever seen a horror movie where the beautiful young semi-nude sexpots don't wind up helplessly meeting a gruesome end? The Wicker Man turns that hackneyed bit of business on its head. Edward Woodward and Christopher lee both give great performances, as do Britt Eckland's breasts.

I ordered this item several weeks ago and have not received it at this point. I had to send and email to find out if it had been sent and it had not. I am still waiting.

Bought this DVD because "The Wicker Man" has been one of my favorite horror/suspense type films for years. I very much prefer this 1973 original version over the fairly recent remake with Nicholas Cage. The cast includes Ed Woodward (The Equalizer), Christopher Lee, Ingrid Pitt, and many other UK film regulars. This is the US theatrical version which has a running time of about 88 minutes, as compared to the original long version which runs over 100 minutes. While this one is considerably shorter, it does have a couple of scenes not in the long version. Most of the actors were unhapply with the cuts, with the exception of Ingrid Pitt who said it helped the pace of the movie. The DVD also includes some nice extra features, including the theatrical trailer and a "making of" documentary which has interviews with many of the cast members and producers. I recommend both this US theatrical version and the original longer version, both are 5 stars in my opinion.

Christopher Lee is my all-time favorite horror hero... I knew the movie would be good when I saw he was cast in it -- I just didn't know how good. This film has a twist in it I wasn't used to seeing in movies of the time and it does deserve to be called a "Cult Classic". I can watch this movie over and over again and never tire of it. It is a very original theme and if you've never seen it, you will never guess what the "Wicker Man" is until the scene is upon you -- and I loved it! I had this film on VHS and it mysteriously disappeared one day, but DVD does rule over that medium and i can enjoy it once again! Highly recommended!+++++

I had bought this movie because I heard its a great cult classic to have! I cant really say its a horror movie because in the traditional sense its not! I can say its more of a cult exotic comical horror of the creepy type! I didnt really care for the last few minutes of it, I feel the ending could have been a bit better, even though I thought the cops sacrifice was fine, just could have been a little bit different! Watch it for yourself to get an idea of the story!
