Recorded at Right Track Studios, New York, New York. Based on Gregory Maguire's novel of the same name, the Broadway musical WICKED creates a history for the two witches from L. Frank Baum's OZ books. Through composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz's emotive songs, the show reveals the unlikely friendship between Elphaba (Idina Menzel), who eventually becomes the Wicked Witch, and Glinda (Kristin Chenoweth), the Good Witch. The dramatic, horn-laden "No One Mourns the Wicked" starts the story in striking fashion, with the death of the ruby-slipper-wearing Wicked Witch. As Glinda appears, Elphaba's backstory begins, leading to jaunty numbers like "Popular" and "Defying Gravity," as well as ballads such as "I'm Not That Girl" and "For Good," with Menzel and Chenoweth showing off their substantial vocal chops. Adding to the boisterous energy is musical theater veteran Joel Grey, who brings a bit of Broadway's past to his role as the Wizard. | Find errors in the product description? Idina Menzel's voice is awe-inspiring, and paired with Kristen Chenoweth's voice it's incredible.Idina Menzel is simply amazing. Having followed her career since "Rent" and her solo album. Mr. Schwartz's score is filled with so many great songs, but standouts include: The Wizard And I What Is This Feeling Popular [Chenoweth's big song] I'm Not That Girl Defying Gravity [Menzel's powerful end to Act I & the classic of the show] As Long As You're Mine For Good go see the show if it travels near you!! I got interested when the first time I acually-with no clue what the hell it was- became amazed by it was when one night, I was watching "Tonight with Jay Leno" and at the near end of the show,I saw a bunch of peple in all "green" dancing to some beautiful up beat music.I didn't know what the hell they were doing until Jay announced it after their performance that it was form a new musical called...WICKED!...and then the rest was hstory lol! You have no iead of how infuactuated,addicting-and I mean addicting-the music is! Beautifly Beautifly Well Made HIGHLY RECCOMENDED FOR EVERYBODY.Whether your a fan of musical theatre or not.If everybody had to chose at lease one musical album in their collection...let it be this one.you won't regret it,and it's worth every cent! :-) Review ID: 10000000001783273 Was this review helpful? The seller also enclosed the book as a surprise bonus. My family and I are thrilled with this purchase AND with the added bonus. What a deal! Got the book and was "hooked". I have not been able to get the soundtrack for months then I tried EBay. My seller was quick and when I got the CD I think I have worn it out.
