I bought this book on a whim, and it proved to draw me in during the first chapter and spit me out on the last page. The characters, the plot lines, all intermingle and progress through 50-some years of history. A great book on the cultures and characters that inhabit London.

WonderfulI picked up this book after watching an episode of the BBC movie version. The book far outshines the movie, as most do. I was impressed by her writing and her ability to keep me entertained. The book takes place over a long period of time, but at no point do you feel that the flow is slowing down or going too fast. It covers so many different sociological aspects from race to deviance, but it doesn't preach. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes to examine other cultures or societies. It is fresh and exciting and a great read.
