Whisper Of The Heart (DVD, 2006)

This film is like Hayao Miyazaki's many other films. It is magical, imaginative, and has a lovely story with lovable characters. The movie has unbelievable detail, one of particular interest was bugs swarming around a light during the light. Never before have I seen such detail in movies. Hayao Miyazaki is the best director of any Japanese anime, he's movies, including this one, are always excellent.

I bought this for my sisters B-day, and she loves it. I watched it with her just the other day and am very pleased with the storyline, artwork, and quality. Studio Ghibli is just a fantastic source for great anime films that you can share with anybody.

I originally watched this in Japanese, without subtitles, and loved it. To me it's culturally very Japanese, which might not translate for some Westerners in an appealing way. But, I absolutely LOVE it. It's like being on the outskirts of Tokyo, so many little details that are true to life in Japan, as well as nuances in the language and culture that Disney did a pretty good job of transferring over into English-speaking culture. Very sweet coming-of-age love story that reflects well the Japanese esthetic of young romantic love. Would love to see Disney do the English version of "Omoide PoroPoro" as well!

This is one of the best movies, right along with spirited away and Kiki's Delivery service. Me and both my daughter's ages 6 & 8 watch it all the time. IT's a great story which kids can relate to. Two thumbs up, it's a keeper of a movie.

A tale about two teenagers who are trying to find their futures, the sacrifices they make, and the development of their relationship. I would not recommend this for very young viewer (kids under 10-11). Would not be harmful, but I think they would be bored. The animation is great and if I could just grade that then this would be a 5, but the plot is a bit adolescent and transparent. The storyline about the cat is lacking and I probably will not purchase the next movie 'the cat returns'. I would recommend renting this first before purchasing.

I bought this movie because i have a love for most of Ghibli's work. I was intially suspect because the cover seems insipid, it aludes to a "meet cute" type movie. But from the opening chord of "Country Roads" as an opening song i knew this was going to be exceptional. In fact I had to stop the movie switch over to Japanese to find out if it was added to the english track, but it wasn't. So that was the first surprise but wasn't the last. The dipiction of family life in Tokyo was accurate and truer then almost all live action films. The character are great all around and defy the japanese stereotypes. But most importantly t=it is genuinely heartwarming, it makes you feel good, and thats most important.

This movie is incredible touching like all of Miyazaki's movies. The creatures are funny and beautifully drawn. The plot helps us relate a little to everyday life without taking away the essense of the imagination.

The first time I watched this movie I watched it with my now fiance. We felt it was eerily similar to how we first met, first reacted, and various other similarities. It is a great love story. Pick up a copy if you can.

Another beautiful Miyazaki film. This one is a love story which will be embraced for it's charm and for it's story of trust and the belied in one's dreams. My daughter whom has seem many of the Studio Ghibli films announced after a second viewing that it was now her favorite. I think it will be enjoyed by all but especially by the girls whom dream big.

The Baron from The Cat Who Returns first appears in this film. And the main family is the same family from My Neighbor Totorro, though this takes place before Mai is born.

Watch it. Buy it. It's a nice, gentle family film.

I just saw this movie last night and I was more impressed with it than I thought I'd be.

I had expected "Whisper of the Heart", as a Studio Ghibli film, to have a whacky storyline, like Miyazaki-san's "Spirited Away", "My Neighbor Totoro" and his other films.

However, I had never seen a Studio Ghibli film that HADN'T been directed by Miyazaki-san. The few reviews that I had read didn't really give me the feeling that it WAS odd, but there were no indications that it WASN'T odd, either. Would it be a boring film without the spectacular creatures and flying machines that so often graced Miyazaki-san's films? Despite my hesitations, I decided to give "Whisper of the Heart" a chance.

It certainly rose to the occasion! There were no oddities, but that is part of the charm of the film. It's so realistic to life and relationships that many people could enjoy it. I have many friends who have reservations about watching anime BECAUSE of the oddness of many anime movies. "Whisper of the Heart", while pleasing any anime fan, can also please those who are not into most other anime. It is a sweet love story with a lovely message about following your dreams.

I highly recommend it to anyone. I watched it with a 12-year old and a 9-year old, and they both enjoyed it immensely (they want us to buy a copy of it for ourselves!). It may be boring for children younger than that, though, and I'm not sure if a young boy would like it because it's somewhat romantic. But I know I enjoyed it!

Great Movie nice begining but ending kind of let you hanging but it does that for most japenese movies. This is the prelude to The Cat Returns so if you like that movie get this one.

I decided to purchase Whisper of the Heart based solely on its repeatedly being mentioned alongside the great anime writer/producer Hayao Miyazaki. His films are magnificent, so I figured since this one was recommended by Miyazaki fans that it would be just as superb. It was certainly a good film with a solid storyline, well-developed characters, and first-rate animation. I had hoped for a more imaginative bent, though; compared to Spirited Away or Totoro, it felt bland.

I love Miyazaki's movies. This one was not directed by him, but the story line was original a play created by Miyazaki. And the movie did not let me down, it still had the three Miyazaki elements: love, flying, and inspirational lessons that keep the kid in us, alive.

I decided to buy this movie because I already owned one of Hayao Miasaki's other films (Howls Moving Castle). I really enjoyed it. It wasn't quite what I was expecting but it was good none the less. I was hoping that it would be similar to Howls Moving Castle (because I love that movie!!) BUT it was very different. This movie is about a girl's journey to find herself and discover what she wants to do with her life. It is relativley funny and it is very touching. It is somewhat of a chick flick though. My little brother (12 yrs old) isn't a fan of it. All in all I give this movie an 8 out of 10. Hope this little review of mine has helped you make your decition. ^_^

This is a beautiful movie. If you wanted to see a great love story then you should find this movie and watch it.

I liked that the children involved had parents who nurtured and encouraged them without being either overly lenient or restrictive. The storyline was very nice.

I was a little non-plussed about two junior high-schoolers discussing marriage at such a young age, but other than that, all in all this movie is worth watching.

A very likeable story. Miyazaki & Disney at their finest again. I really liked it and so did my 9 year old. I'd recommend it to anyone who's a fan of Miyazaki.
