When you are expecting your first baby...this is the book you will be recommended...by your Doctor, by other moms, by baby magazines, and it is easy to see why this is such a widely read and loved publication. It has sold over 10 million copies which in itself tells you that this book has something to offer the mom to be. The first thing I liked about this book is the fact that it has individual chapters that correspond to each month of your pregnancy; which is ideal for easy reference. It allows you to understand what development stage your baby is going through as well as experiences you may be having. Also this is not a one size fits all book - it takes into account that we are all different and allows for this. It has questions and answers written into each chapter and it not afraid to address some of the more obscure or embarrassing questions that a mom may have and be afraid to ask her doctor. Another useful feature of this book, is its guide to nutrition. Many moms to be get confused on this issue and the old adage -eat for two is still sadly a common myth. This addresses the fact that is reality, we only need add 300 calories a day to our diet and the book explores ways this can be done in a healthy and nutritious manner! There is a section for the daddy to be - few books address this issue, and lets be honest, a first time dad is also likely to have many questions - about not only his baby, but his pregnant wife. This is all covered here in one book rather than the need to seek out different titles for each parent! I found this a great book - no book on pregnancy can answer every question but this does come close in way that is well referenced and easy to understand! I would say however that this is a great book for first time moms to be - after which point , on subsequent pregnancies it may be something you flick to really quickly if you have a quick question!
With its month-by-month breakdown, including "what you may look like" "what you may be feeling" "what your baby looks like now" ... What To Expect is quite comforting during pregnancy. It's great preparation for the dads too !
Very easy to ready. Well formatted so you don't have to sit down and read the entire book at one time. It's layed out so you can look things up as they arise. A must have to for people thinking about/ or who are pregnant.
it is very helpful book. Aaasaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaasaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Nothing haven't read the book. So ebay needs my opinion and I need to type at least 100 characters in order to get rid of the stupid reminder about reviewing the book that I bought for someone else. Hope this makes ebay happy but I really hope that this is at least 100 characters.
Has a lot of information on pregancy. I got this for my daughter because with each of my four pregnancys I kept it close. Tells you what is going on with your body, and with the baby, what to expect from the dr.visits, what to stay away from and why, or what is safe and so on. I recommend any woman who is pregnant with first or tenth child, as well as if you know someone close who is pregnant. I am not one to "go by the book",or even a big reader and I still used this book often. My daughter just got it today and she is already looking up symptoms she is having, and what body parts are developing on the baby this week.
I found this book to be very informative with my first pregnancy. More than anything I would read it to find out if what I was feeling was normal or if I should be concerned about anything that I may have been feeling.
Even though I had read it and been through one pregnancy already I kept it for my 2nd & 3rd as well, it came in handy for refreshing my memery on things I may have for gotten or not experianced the first time. Overall I would rate this book as a must have for the first time mother to be.
DON'T BE PREGNANT WITHOUT THIS BOOK. ALSO A GREAT GIFT IDEA FOR A BABY SHOWER. I THINK THIS BOOK WILL HELP YOU KNOW ABOUT WHAT TO EXPECT, WHAT TO DO. GIVES INFORMATION ABOUT THINGS YOU WOULD NEVER HAVE THOUGHT YOU NEEDED TO KNOW, BUT IS VITAL INFORMATION ABOUT HAVING A HEALTHY BABY AND HEALTHY PREGNANCY. EXPLAINS THINGS THAT YOUR DOCTOR WOULD NEVER TELL YOU. I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH, HOW HELPFUL THIS BOOK IS.
i decide to BUY it becouse of many reasons,BUT THAT one WAS this."knowledge about LIVE ,witch is from FIRST DAY start BEFORE this days COMMING" WE MUST prepare to serve EVERY ONE from 1 DAY to LAST and this BOOK TEACH us HOW understanding IS IMPORTANT for US and NOT AT all. highly recommended..........
This book is one of the worst books on pregnancy and birth I have ever read. The best book to read is "The thinking woman's guide to pregnancy and birth" by Henci Goer. Do not waste your time or money w/ this one!!
The book was interesting and it was nice to hear the details about pregnancy. I decided to buy this book because my sister was having a baby and I wanted to give it to her for a gift. Her daughter is 17 years old and she wanted to catch up about pregnancy and the do's and dont's.
This is THE best selling book about having a baby~ great practical information that is never boring you will read it like a paper back~ have DAD read it too~ he will have his eyes opened about this event~LOL you will learn more from this book than any Doctor will teach you~
Even has info BEFORE conceiving TO the Birth and every step of the way~
I give it a solid 20 out of 10~ best of BEST~
IF YOU FOUND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE~
I got this book in 2000 when I was pregnant with my 1st child. This book helped me through a lot and answered pretty much all my questions. Everytime the Dr. would talk to me in medical jargon, I knew exactly what she was talking about and could actually keep up :)
I've had 3 kids and as they say, every pregnancy is different, I've had to refer back to my "What To Expect When You're Expecting" book for different pregnancy questions. Oh yeah, the month by month (how your baby is developing), is a must-read for every pregnancy.
This would make a great gift for a first-time mom to a fifth-time mom :)
Good source of information for just about any question a pregnant lady might have. This book can help all sorts of expecting mothers in their different situations. I recommend this book.
This is a must for every couple out there that is expecting, wether their first baby or babies after each other. Its a great learning experience to to have guidelines for expecting a love one to come. Especially, when you want to be more extra care for own baby. This book will teach every sense of taking care about your body upto the delivery of the baby and beyond it. You should never pass this along when your expecting a special someone.
I recieved this book as a gift from a Chatholic Charities program whan I was pregnant with my first child. I was 16 years old, scared and alone. This book was a life saver. It helped me so much to understand what was going on with my ever changing body. I recomend this book to all parents to be. It has everything from what to expect at your next appoinment, to exercises, to coping with a miscarriage. Think of it as a second bible.
This is a good book especially for new upcoming moms. My sister is having her first baby and she loves the book. It is very informative and easy to read and understand.
This book is terrible. Tells you unrealistic goals and unrealistic practices throughout the book. Read a newer up to date book. Not everybody is hot about tofu and eating only vegetables.
Please buy the updated version of this book. While this edition is good, the field of obstetrics has changed over the last decade and some of the information is out of date, however the basics about pregnancy are the same. This edition is good for second or third time mothers.
