Western Digital WD1001FALS 1 TB SATA Hard Drive

Myself, I have not experience any HD problems... so far; but my friend have. A particular line of well known 7200 rpm hard drive brand act up within a week after he bought it, so I decided to stay away from that brand for now (even known they are going for very good price every where!). Internet search shown that the drive line that my friend bought in fact just have a major firmware revision & the defects are linked with this line!(hence the price discount!?).
I like this line a lot (and prefer to buy that brand) but the price on the ones with good firmware revision are not reasonable nor is it readily available... so

A search of the internet also tell me that WD black Caviar 7200rpm has some very good features and some specs are even better than that other well known drive line, in particular is its server heritage, reliability and power consumption and the price is also very reasonable on Ebay; so I picked up one up. So far, every thing is as good as can be. I am an average user so I have not monitor every aspect of the drive to be able to rate it more accurately but it seems to perform flawlessly and have not noticably increase the temperature of my case. This is perfectly good with me.

The only thing that I don't like about this unit is that comes bare... no setup disk, no mounting hardwares. etc... but I knew that going in. So overall, I would give this WD Caviar Black two thumbs up.

awesome product at an awesome price. simple as that. its read and writes faster than any hard drive that ive ever used. cutting pasting and navigating the hard drive via file explorer is all instantaneous

Over the years I have purchased many hard drives for new systems I have build or upgraded. I started using Western Digitals over 10 years ago after another brand crashed & burned with all of my business and personal information on it after only 4 months of use. So at that time I added a tape back-up & switched to WD. Since then I have always counted on them for state of art equipment that is rock solid & dependable.
This drive is another in a long line of outstanding technology form WD

Took forever to get drive from seller, when it arrived it was scotch taped shut and had minimum padding. eBay interceded and sent a prepaid UPS label to return!

I needed a large drive to archive a ton of files. Finally bought from "Best Buy" on sale. The drive is very fast, runs extremely cool and quiet.......definitely a great drive with a "Ton of Space!" This drive is a must for large archives, video production/collections or gamers with a big collection! So satisfied I have bought a second Western Digital WD1001FALS 1 TB SATA Hard Drive

Have used Western Digital for some time now and continue to be satisfied with the performance. I use both their Caviar Black and Green 1TB drives. I use the Green primarly for backups while the Black for active files.

What isn't to like about this hard drive? It's one of, if not THE fastest terabyte internal hard drives on the market today.

Though, the seek times aren't as good as some smaller spaced drives, but with the storage size the drive offers, it shouldn't really matter.

Another gripe is that Western Digital calls this a terabyte drive... not entirely true. The storage space is about 914GB, where as Windows recognizes a terabyte as 1024GB. Close, but eh.

This drive really helps run Windows 7. If you're looking to get a new main hard drive and upgrade your OS, this is definitely the drive for you.
