Unpacked hard-drive and pluged it into the usb port. Unit powered up instantly and did the installation on it's own. It seems to be easy enough to use that someone like me that is not so computer savy can use it without any trouble. Great product. Am very pleased with my WD USB external hard-drive. Being 500GB it has more than three times the memory capacity of my computer hard-drive giving me all the storage space i will need for a long time.

Plug it in and once Windows (or any OS for that matter) detects the drive then it's super cool and quiet. I love the fact that is automatically powers down the drive when not in use so it's a "plun-n-forget" drive. Only takes a few seconds to start up when you access the drive so as a backup device it's great. With the newer head parking design in the WD drives the heads aren't "landing" on the disks anymore so no head wear out will occur so turning off the hard drive to save on power works perfectly. The rubber end caps make for cushioned noise free operation.

The drive itself is a reliable drive, BUT, the power adapters only last 1 to 2 months outside of the warranty, nice way to screw the customer Western Digital! Be warned if you have one of these drives the power adapter WILL go bad in less than 16 months, be prepared & buy an extra one off eBay!
