Western Digital My Passport Essential (WDME5000) 500 GB USB Hard Drive

i love this hard drive! no power supply needed first plus.
drag drop photos mpg files on this no problem.
but the biggest thing about this item is it plugs right into the front of the ps3 and you can navigate your media files on the tv.
photos music and video in great clarity , my other external drives do not do this as they cannot be read by the ps3 that makes this hard drive awesome

Best portable hard drive out there, no question about it. After reading many 5 star review for the product, I have purchased and used it with great satisfaction.
Very easy to use, the pre-installed backup program is really easy and works perfectly.
A couple of times this portable hard drive has fallen off the desk and while hanging it has made a sound like a beep that alerted me - I didn't know it could do this but it's a really helpful feature.
Looks great, really small, very fast transfer.

One piece of advice though; as with all portable hard drives, they come in FAT32 format which, among other things, means that you cant write files above 4GB to it. This can be annoying with files like backup .iso of DVD movies, which are usually 4.6GB.
To solve this problem, format the drive to NTFS by right clicking on the drive in My Computer and selecting Format. Hope this helps.

Overall, fantastic product and I would say 10/10 or 5 stars, like so many others have already rated it.

I love the sleek design, the portability, the ability to be powered by just a USB:mini USB cable. Be forewarned, the hard drive depends on a good quality USB cable like the one it comes with in the box. Cheap USB cables may lead to data corruption or data loss or inability to power the hard drive adequately. I got this item for $105 shipped which is a fair price considering that the 1.5terabyte seagate internal 3.5" hard drives are selling for $120 now.

This is a neat "little" drive for making sure my Laptop is backed up -It is easy to attach, can be carried with me if needed. I think I most fear losing my pictures, music and data and this drive easily holds them all.

I just attached it to my MAC and it was instantly recognized and ready for me to copy to it.

Before that I did not have such a device. This Wester Digital is very good. It is convenient to use, you can put in your pocket, Lego wear. Enough space for all my files.

Seller was awsome..!I bought this three weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive HDD. It has a 1M-pixel camera, video camera, and speakerphone. The NewPhone's size is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan of roughly 4 hours. My only complaint is that the menu system on the phone makes you click four times before you can find someone in the address book, set an alarm, or perform a additional functions. Other phones I've owned have simpler menus and get you to important features easily. Overall, I'd recommend the phone if you're on a budget.

This is a nice sleek, small external hard drive. its pretty easy to use. Just plug in and your set. There is one thing the seems flimsy which is the connection of the USB on the External Hard Drive. It tends more and case the hard drive to disconnect but don't touch it and you'll be good.

I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend in Macedonia, he says it works perfectly and I got this at an excellent price!.I checked out the reviews at Amazon.com and all reviews were possitive so thats how I decided to purchase this model. Of course getting it for 30 dollars less here on ebay was the cherry on the top!!

I was looking for reasonable deal for a passport that was why I purchased it. Although, I was uncertain when it was shipped. But, I was pleased that a signature was required to pick it up.

I like that is a small very portable disk and only requires a usb cable, no plug to A/C power needed; also the thing that the seller specified that was very usable.

I have two of these and they are perfect for backup use and for video use (i edit video directly off of the drive) fast start up and works great with mac.

No complaints with this drive! Small, sleek, no crazy plug in play issues. Pops right up with its own drive letter when plugged into the USB port. File transfer is quick! Great buy!

For my PowerBookG4 I needed to get a special dual usb cable so that the hard drive could be powered properly. If you plug your hard drive and your mac does not recognize it and/or you hear it clicking you may need to call WD and they will send you a dual USB for free. You also have to reformat it for MACS

this hard drive is great a little slow but very portable and from past experience and other peoples reviews it is a very reliable and the perfect sized hard drive for a moderate price. I don't like the misconception that its 500 gb when its 465gb of usable space. because the comp and hard drive companys use a different method to calculate a what a gigabyte is worth but i guess it is what it is... bottom line if you need a portable versatile pc/mac hard drive this is great as i use it for both

Only downside is that I used it as my backup disk for Mac's Time Machine, and it doesn't seem to sync with my Windows. Other than that, I'm extremely satisfied with the product's design, size, volume and price.
