Western Digital My Book™ Essential Edition 2.0 (1000 GB) 1 TB USB Hard Drive

well i am not a very extensive reviwer of products , but my experience with this product has been excellent, i first got a 500gb Western Digital My Book,one year ago,for my house to put it with my laptop, work perfect , extremely easy to use , is just plug and play!!!! no error of any kind so far. i got now this new 1tb because my sister need it for her computer at work , i had try it here for 2 days before i give it to her , but so far no problem , i truly highly recommend this Western Digital My Book to any one that need to increase storage space in their computer , a lot better than getting a hard disc to put inside the computer , due to the fact that this Western Digital My Book you can plug it at any time on any computer , and work all the time perfect. something that i dont like is the software it use to sync the computer with it , because it keep on doing it more often than what i want, and that sync slow my computer , but i resolve it very easy - i just uninstall the software that does that and use the my book with out it and any thing that i need to keep over there i send it manually and voila!!! . some improvement this product should have in the future is the energy, this Western Digital My Book have to be connected to the ac power , "but it have to be like that, so how could you power the hard disc inside it" well i just say this no because i like that fact or not, but as and improvement to the manufacturer, i think will be nice to waive to need of the ac power. Just do not buy in the expensive retailer that you find in the mall or in the commercial building ( this just not to say any expecific name) , here ebay sellers have very very good prices.i recommend Western Digital My Book in top of any other way to improve your space in your computer. thank you

I'm always a bit skeptical when buying items like this online. I've always liked Western Digital products, so I felt I couldn't go wrong with this item.

As with a lot of todays computer accessories this external hard drive is extremely simple to use. My computer recognized and installed the drivers automatically and I was up and running in about 2 minutes. I'm now using this drive to backup 3 different computers, and I would recommend this model to anyone.

Item works but it very slow, also some times I need to restart the computer in order to recignize the Hard Drive.

I already owned a 250GB WD MyBook drive and have loved it. When I needed more space I knew the MyBook was the drive I wanted since I already had a great experience. The drive is nice and quiet even when it spins at full speed. Access time is great. The drive comes with software from WD for backing up your system and some other features. I cannot comment on them since I do not use the software it comes with. I would recommend the drive to anyone looking for an external usb disk.

I have 2 others 500 gb external WD HDD and they are really good, so why go for something that i don't know how's going to be

After winning the product, I contacted the seller as suggested to work out the payment details. I sent three messages on different occasions without a single reply. When I tried to further contact the seller, it said the seller's account was deactivated. WTF. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SELLER. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!

I have always trusted Western Digital products, and this hard drive is no exception. It runs quietly, produces very little heat, blends with the decor of my desk, and the 1 Terabyte capacity (I upgraded from a 250 gigabyte external hard drive) should ensure at least another year of heavy-duty use.

The drive comes formatted as FAT32, and I would recommend reformatting the drive to NTFS, as this improves throughput speed and makes defragmentation faster and easier. For such a large drive, I would also recommend using Diskeeper Pro Premier which automatically and regularly defragments the drive in the background.

The software included with installation is a diagnostic tool called Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnsotic for Windows, which uses the SMART attribute to routinely check not only the My Book but any SMART hard drive connected to the computer for errors.

If you are looking for an external hard drive with large capacity and stylish appearance, I would definitely recommend buying the WD My Book series for all of the above reasons. You won't be disappointed.

My wife and I had been looking into purchasing an external hard drive for our notebook computer because we had a high number of photos and other documents stored on its hard drive.

I researched several types of external drives and found that the WD My Book series was the most appealing based on other reviews. I went to eBay after pricing the 1 TB Hard Drive on other retail sites for more than $260 and was able to purchase one for 60 percent lower than the retail price, although it is a refurbished unit.

When we received the unit from the eBay seller we immediately connected it to our computer and began transferring files. We decided instead of using the sync function that was programmed on the drive (which you have to purchase after a 30-day trial) to drag and drop files into the drive. I was surprised to see how easy it was to move files over to the external drive, and also how many photos and documents we had on our notebook (12.5 GB).

Overall this product was worth the price I paid on eBay!

This is my first external hard drive bigger than a 2GB flash drive. This device appears to be very fast and the blue light on the inside look very cool sitting next to my monitor. I have not used the utilities included on the drive yet because I am mainly going to back up tons and tons of family photos. There will be lots and lots of room with this 1 TB drive. I am very satified with the operation of this device.

I love this device. It is small attractive and powerful. The price is very reasonable for what it delivers. Just be sure not to delete the tools or drivers like I did and ended up having to replace it.
I have several and I immediately get rid of the 'Memeo' trial programs that try to install themselves and take over your computer. I've heard good and bad about these units, but my experiences have been positive. I use them to store my massive dvd collection.I bought it for it's design initially, but they are efficient.

Love the size physically and memory-wise. Was very easy to set up and start using right away. No complaints yet...working as expected!

Great product, started backing everything up and it's very easy to do it. It's like having 2 computers and to work with and 1 for storage.

I needed some storage space for all the pictures and song files I have and started looking at various external hard drives. I have a Dell laptop which is a few years old and has only 160GB of space. The "MY Book" external hard drive with 1TB is works well with my Dell laptop. No issues with compatibility and started right up. I had 150GB transferred in no time at all. I looked at others but noticed good reviews on this and for the price (+ free shipping)it was well worth the price of under $100. Somewhat portable (about the size of a thick paperback novel) but kind of heavy so probably suited more as a "leave it on your desk" peripheral.
Overall a very good product.

Been looking for an external drive for a quiet a long time, but some were not as good, others - just way too expensive. Here we see great capacity for a sweet price. What else can I say.. love-love-love!!!

I'm using this 1 TB USB 2.0 external drive for recording (security videos). Does the job, Planing on getting several more,Wasn't really interested in the extra built in downloads that you can get,It's plug & play,What could be easier?

I already had the WD 400GB MyBook, filled it up so I needed more space. Since the 400GB was such a good hard drive for me I figured that the 1TB would be the next move. I am very satisfied with it.

replaced an old smaller HD with this, smaller box but with more capacity. this one looks like the HD can up upgraded which is awesome.

Shipping was very fast and packaged with incredible care. The product was in mint condition and works perfect. The price was a steal and I recommend to all.
