The West Wing - The Complete Sixth Season (DVD, 2006, 6-Disc Set)

Like the rest of the series, absolutely astounding in scope. Memorable characters. Any person interested in the continuation of our way of life should see the series, learn more about how government works, then get active to make certain that it DOES work.

Everything was as it was listed in the description! Box and discs were in good condition and there was no damage from shipping. Delivery time was about a week or so, which is to be expected.

I was very pleased with my purchase. They accidentally sent me the wrong dvd but immediately sent me a new one and very promptly. I would buy from them again.

Aaron Sorkin is now pretty well known for engaging story lines, reasonably complicated sub plots and GREAT casting. This entire series is a joy to watch and requires that you pay attention the whole time. There are lots of elements to each episode that give the series "Something for Everyone". Issues, pathos, emotion, comedy, suspense, education and GREAT snappy dialogue,; it's all there.
If you get a chance to own a season, or even ALL of them, do it. If you have an interest in politics this series is an investment you won't be sorry you made. I've been enjoying HOURS of great entertainment.

The sixth season is jam packed and does not disappoint. From the sudden "changing of the guard" in the Chief of Staff's office, to Donna's newfound career direction independent of Josh, to the beginnings of the Santos and Vinnick Presidential campaigns, the West Wing continues to be a top notch show.

The order came quickly and in great shape. I will buy from this vendor again. In fact, that is what I am going to do right now...

This is the sixth season of the great series West Wing. This season continues the high quality of the previous seasons. Very good.

I love West Wing and having the opportunity to enjoy the episodes without commercials. The service was prompt and as presented.

. . . a far cry from the first four.

As has been much mentioned and debated in reviews at this website of the 5th season, all West Wing seasons after the first four (after which series creators Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme who had created the distinctive tone of the show were shown the exit by NBC) have to be considered as almost a completely different show. Even when thought of in this way, the 5th season was something of a disaster, both ratings-wise and creatively.

So this 6th season really had nowhere else to go but up. Yet, more than just going up, by mid-season the series started to hit a bit of a stride and find a new voice (whether you prefer it to the first four seasons is debatable -- personally I do not -- but at least it was watchable and good for what it was). This is the season in which the narrative of the show fractures, as most of the characters exit their original roles and take on new assignments. This includes C.J.'s unrealistic promotion from press secretary to Chief of Staff (quite an improvement for a character who didn't know what the census was for in the first season and is now the President's chief adviser on all policy issues), Josh leaving the White House to manage the presidential campaign of Rep. Matt Santos (unevenly played by Jimmy Smitts), Donna quitting the White House to work on the Vice-President's campaign, Toby doubling as press secretary, Charlie becoming a Special Assistant for C.J., and Leo becoming general wise man for the White House, with no real role except to recover from his heart attack.

The first part of the season deals with the Arab-Israeli peace talks and the aftermath of the death of Admiral Fitzwallace and Donna's injuries in the Gaza Strip. Concluding with a bitter fight between Leo and the President that leads to the aforementioned heart attack by Leo (a sadly prescient plot line given John Spencer's real life death last year from a heart attack) and C.J.'s elevation, this segment segues into the meat of the season, which is the Democratic Primary Season. While providing many interesting campaign episodes and plotlines as a result (an area the show didn't really explore as much when Bartlet ran for re-election), it also means that the amount of screen time for most characters is drastically reduced as the show rushes to cover so many different long-term plotlines. Moreover, the fragmented storytelling also de-emphasizes the West Wing part of "The West Wing," except mainly to do national security issues to give an excuse to include stories for the totally uninteresting character of Mary McCormack (involving Cuba and Castro and whatnot). Why they wasted so much screen time on her stories is beyond me. More interesting in her addition to the cast is Kristen Chenowith as Asst. Press Secretary Annabeth Schott, who becomes an even better character in Season 7.

The final part of the season deals with the Republican challenger, Senator Arnold Vinick (certainly the most interesting and complex character introduced in the post-Sorkin era and very appealingly played by Alan Alda) and ends with a chaotic Democratic Convention that leaves Leo as the surprise VP candidate to (surprise) Jimmy Smitt's character managed by Josh. The season also ends with a ripped from the headlines storyline involving the leak by a West Wing staffer of sensitive national security information . . . all leading to Season 7 -- the final season of the series and certainly the best season since the first 4.

like the rest did not let me down although less episodes but still a hit from leo getting fired to josh leaving to the candiates season 6 keeps on to deliver the life in and around the west wing if you have the first five you must get season 6

I think that The West Wing was one of the best series ever on TV no matter what your politics are. Fast paced, dialog driven and often controversial, it never shirked from taking on the hard questions all the while being funny and entertaining. The highest praise I can give any piece of fiction is to say I really wish I could know these characters. I watch them over and over. Wanting to own it was a total no brainer. You will be amazed at how many of your favorite actors/actresses made guest appearances.

The package arrived in reasonably good shape. The corners had the usually slight crushing, but not noticeable damage. The discs and their 2-disc acrylic trays also arrived intact and undamaged. My only quibble is that it took 11 days for the shipment to arrive (it was just this single item).

One of the best seasons in the series. Real world issues and assocaited political drama. Also content may possibly ba a great case study for students of political science.

I purchased this set to complete my collection of The West Wing. It is a show I love and now I don't have to wait for someone to decide to put it on tv to fill an empty time slot. The purchase was exactly as described and I am well pleased.

It was perfect working condition and my husband loved it. (It was his birthday gift from our kids) I could see nothing wrong with it and would buy more seasons of West Wing in the future.

My job includes writing for public speaking. I watch West Wing while I am writing. The rhythms of the action, speaking and writing are inspiring. The cadences of the speeches can be replicated in different speaking circumstances. The rapid-fire conversation is written in short, articulate bursts. The character of the President is a renaissance man, saturated with knowledge from all fields and all time periods. He is, in short, a geek; a wise one. All these things coming together make the show a tool for my tasks.

There is not to much to say about the product, it is after all just a DVD. The West Wing - The complete Sixth Season arrived as promised and as yet I have not had a chance to view the whole dvd but it seems to work just fine.

I love the West Wing ... it is by far one of the best television shows ever made! And also one of those rare series worth watching again. Excellent writing, acting and directing!

hard to imagine jimmy smits as president. alan alda excellent as gob nominee. series beginning to show age though still the best bet on tv.

I love West Wing. I think it was one of the quality programs on TV. Thankfull that it came out on DVD. The stories are original, creative and the acting is excellent. No wonder West Wing won numerous awards every year.
