This girl can flat out sing
Review created: 04/05/09

Lucinda williams songs ,voice and lyrics are not for the faint hearted. In one song she excoriated a former lover who couldn't get her off and actuallly tells him to f--k off. She's like the bad girl you try to help get back on track, instead of taking advantage.

  Lucinda Williams album WEST
Review created: 03/10/09

I saw her recently on Austin City Limits and couldn't figure how she was so highly respected...so invested in the CD (which was very reasonable) and it made a believer out of me. If you haven't listened to Ms Williams, try her -
you'll like her!

  Lucinda Williams' West
Review created: 10/03/07

Lucinda Williams shares a very personal journey with her heartfelt lyrics that almost anyone can identify with. The songs are deeply personal about love lost, or given to the wrong person. We've all been there and can all relate.

WEST - Lucinda Williams' latest CD
Review created: 06/06/07

I first learned of Lucinda Williams quite a few years ago when I heard her singing with Emmylou Harris. I've loved her music ever since. Her WEST CD is one of her best. There might be a song or two that seem to somewhat drag on, but for the most part, the music, the lyrics and Lucinda's rich, gravlely voice will captivate you from the first track on.

I heard her song "Are You Alright?" one morning on one of Don Imus's last shows and decided to buy the CD based on that. The rest of the songs are good too with most of them dealing with a romantic breakup. I am very happy with my purchase.

CD - WEST by Lucinda Williams

Quintessential recording from this timeless writer of authentic American soul and folk. Her unbelievable maturation represented on this CD makes it absolutely Grammy bound. This is Williams' contribution to the blues. It is brave, revealing and universal. Perhaps more adult than young alternative, but no matter... still timeless. Stand-out tracks: "Are You Alright?" and "Learning How to Live."

  A Bright Spot In Music

Licinda Williams latest release is a collection of very original songs that will not leave you feeling you just listened to so many other artist. Her voice is powerfull and haunting. The lyrics are original and have content. Where has she been and why haven't I known about Lucinda for years?

  Great stuff, but

Lucinda Williams "West" is a great recording. The songs are well crafted and the musicianship is outstanding. Williams voice is a pleasure. The album is about loss, love and love lost, yearning and the past headed for the future. In other words, not a get down, feel good listen. If that doesn't concern you, BUY THIS DISC!

  Lucinda Williams CD-West
Review created: 04/04/07

Lucinda West is a great song writer, but you must be in the mood for her style of music. Most of her music sounds alike, and a good bit of it is on the down or depressed side. She pulls no punches when describing love affairs gone wrong. Her music reminds me of Neil Young. It is not something you would listen to with young children as there are many references to sex and some very descriptive lyrics. It is one of my favorite CD's, but it is something you wouldn't put on without thinking about it first due to the sexual content and "love gone wrong" theme of many of the songs.

bad, bad, bad...it's low-energy and depressing

i bought this cd because one of the songs was previewed on the imus in the morning show (the only song worth hearing: "are you alright?")...and because i'm a lucinda williams fan. i was surprised to dislike it so much. the songs are uninspired, low energy....and repetitive.
save your money.
listen to her old stuff.

Into the "West" with Lucinda Williams...
Review created: 02/17/07
by: MiDoyle-- a member of Epinions and Top Reviewer in Music

Pros:
Stellar musicianship and imagery meet in the emotional skin.

Cons:
One or two moments of over-reach.

Tales of regret, tales of grief, talk of wounds too deep to see, talk of connections worn and frayed at the edges, thoughts on the possibilities and peculiarities of love in the post-modern world, not so simple declarations and investigations into the human soul (if you will) all of that and more can be found on Lucinda Williams latest album, West [2007, Lost Highway Records]. It s another mostly stellar attempt at getting into the something that kinda happens when we talk knowledge of ourselves, or as her father Miller Williams writes in his The Ways We Touch: Poems: You do not know what..
