Album Notes The Welcome Wagon are a duo of small-towners who migrated to Brooklyn and began making music--a more than shopworn one-sentence bio perhaps. A difference is that Thomas Vito Aiuto is a Presbyterian minister, and his and wife Monique's songs are earnest, humble hymns, featuring both baldly religious and secular themes. Another key is that the producer, arranger, and main guest musician is their friend Sufjan Stevens, whose influence is unmistakable here. Whether they're playing traditional religious fare ("Unless the Lord the House Shall Build") or covering the Smiths ("Half a Person") or the Velvet Underground ("Jesus"), the Welcome Wagon and Stevens maintain a consistently positive, warm atmosphere. It's spiritual music that is off-limits to nobody.
Editorial Reviews [T]his is gloriously inclusive pop that just happens to have its roots in church music. It's sacred without being preachy; heartfelt without descending into schmaltz. Clash
