Dorothy Garlock is a wonderful writer of Americana romance. In this book she returns to the 1930's with a poignant story about the triumphs, tragedies and passion of life in Louisiana during the Great Depression.

Adrianna is shocked to learn that when her father died he left his entire estate to his lawyer who is nothing more than a repulsive social climber and has the nerve to tell her that if she wants to regain her inheritance she will have to marry him "a week from Sunday." Adrianna has always been the pride and joy of her father and his will has now left her penniless. She does the only thing she can think of doing. She runs away in her car during a bad rainstorm and unfortunately collides with fate......an oncoming truck. The driver is Quinn Baxter who is ruggedly handsome, but very upset that his entire haul has been destroyed in the crash....a loss he can't afford during these hard times. He demands payment back from Adrianna but she has nothing to give him, so in exchange for money she takes on the responsibility of caring for Quinn's crippled brother. Adrianna is drawn to Quinn but she has to contend with his bad housekeeping and a bitter malcontent who sees her as a rival for his heart. While all this is going on, the spurned lawyer is hot on her trail, determined to find and have her at all cost.

Another marvelous book from Ms. Garlock! I loved the 1930's theme. She will put you right into the story!

Dorothy Garlock just grabs you from the beginning of the book and doesn't let go. I got this because I read another of her books called Mother Road ,which was equally as good, and couldn't put that one down either. These are great stories of days gone by, and she is a master of making the story flow and keeping you're interest.
