Great actors but still a disappointing story

I was very surprised and disappointed with this movie. I was expecting a good chick-flick. But in my opinion The Wedding Date didn't even compare to most decent feel good movies. The lead actors are GREAT as always. But the characters and the writing they had to work from was often corny and to be honest sometimes annoying.
Good movies usually cause you to care about the characters and become invested enough in their fictional lives that you want to see how the story ends. But unfortunately, this film goes back and forth so many times that the characters are very confusing. Debra Messing is a great leading lady. But the way the film was written made it so half the time you didn't even like her character. Which would be fine if you had another good character to balance that out. But Dermot's character was not at all likeable and charming. For me, this is fine for an ok dvd to rent on a friday night. But I definitely wouldn't buy it.
